A new rumor suggests that some of the most popular witchers of Kaer Morhen from Netflix's The Witcher, may be getting their very own spinoff series in the near future.
According to Redanian Intelligence, the likely live-action spinoff series will likely begin production after Season 3 airs, with one source suggesting that the show will take place before the events of Season 2 and focus on Lambert, Coën and even Eskel. It's worth reiterating that at this point, this is only a rumor and no official announcements have been made concerning any such spinoff.
At last year's TUDUM event, however, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich previously revealed that the streaming giant was developing several more projects for The Witcher franchise, including an anime project and a family-friendly show. No news has come from either of these projects and at the current time it appears Netflix's fantasy adaptation is focused on the upcoming third season of the main series and the prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin.
While both of these projects were announced some time ago, The Witcher Season 3 only recently began filming. Netflix marked the occasion by dropping the official synopsis, teasing Ciri's continued journey, her training in the ways of magic and the political corruption, dark magic and treachery engulfing the Continent. This follows the conclusion of Season 2, which saw the elven Scoia'tael seemingly conclude its alliance with Nilfgaard, the Norther Kingdoms plot Ciri's capture and demise, and Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer and Ciri herself continue their journey elsewhere, now knowing that forces beyond the power of the warring kingdoms may come to threaten the world.
The end of The Witcher Season 2 also saw the debut of the first official trailer for The Witcher: Blood Origin-- a limited prequel series set 1,200 years prior to the events of the main saga. While little is known about the show, it appears to be expanding on the original series character Voleth Meir, as well as the Wild Hunt. The project was announced in July 2020 but has been impacted by both the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and other franchise projects. The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski is serving as a consultant on the series, which is being headed by The Witcher seires writer Declan de Barra, who is also serving as executive producer alongside Lauren S. Hissrich and Tomek Baginski.
Season 3 of Netflix's The Witcher does not yet have a release date. Seasons 1 and 2 are available for streaming on Netflix.
