Since the establishment of Avatar Studios, there has been little news concerning upcoming projects, though creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko assure audiences that there are plenty of stories in the works. Specifics concerning a few of those projects may have come into the light, teasing the return of Prince Zuko and more.
According to Avatar News, Paramount and Avatar Studios are currently developing two Avatar: The Last Airbender-related projects. The first is a prequel film and the second is an animated feature film revolving around Prince Zuko. Regarding the prequel, it is currently unknown how far back in the Four Nations' history the show will explore and how connected it will be to the animated series. Details concerning the Zuko-centric film are similarly as scarce.
DiMartino and Konietzko have previously warned audiences that progress will be slow, but it is being made. In an interview, Konietzko stated, "Mike and I, we're building an awesome team very slowly at Avatar Studios— small team, but we're working our way up— and it'll be years before that stuff's out— but so excited to share all that with everybody. We've got a bunch of cool stuff in the works."
However, they also provided assurances that fans of the franchise will be treated to a number of projects, expanding the world established in both The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra. While on the Avatar: Braving the Elements podcast, the co-creators teased, "We have all the ideas and ideally we're going to get to, over the years, explore all of them and get to make them, but it'll take some time. If we make all this stuff, you guys will just be podcasting for about the next 20 years or so."
Along with new stories are new styles of animation. The franchise will soon see its first CGI feature film, according to Nickelodeon President and CEO and Paramount+ Chief Content Officer of Kids and Family, Brian Robbins. Back in 2021, Robbins explained, "[DiMartino and Konietzko] started Avatar Studios, and they're well on their way in development on a series of CG films and a new Avatar series." In addition, the studio is reportedly in the process of developing its own, unique style consisting of a mixture of 2D and 3D animation.
No release dates have yet been announced for Avatar Studios' upcoming projects.
