While Disney's animated film Ratatouille and Hajime Isayama's post-apocalyptic manga series Attack of Titan may seem like an unlikely pairing, one artist fused the two into an action-packed piece of fan art.
The drawing was created by Cartoonist_Fili and features a dual-knife wielding Remi preparing to strike a colossal Linguini from above. The image is a clear reference to the cover of Attack of Titan's first volume.
This inventive mash-up isn't Cartoonist_Fili's only work of quirky fan art, who has also reimagined Plato's Allegory of the Cave as a comic book page and characters from Netflix's Stranger Things as sloths.
Set in Paris, Ratatouille follows Remy the rat, who dreams of becoming a chef and attempts to achieve his goals by teaming up with Linguini, a garbage boy in a Parisian restaurant. Directed and written by Brad Bird, the movie premiered in 2007 and stars Patton Oswalt (Eternals) as Remy, Lou Romano (Cars) as Linguini, Ian Holm (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring) as Chef Skinner and Peter O'Toole (Lawrence of Arabia) as Anton Ego.
Attack on Titan is set in a world where humans live in walled cities that protect them from enormous, man-eating humanoids known as Titans. The story focuses on Eren Yeager, who vows to kill all Titans to avenge the destruction of his hometown and the death of his mother. Isayama's manga was serialized in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine from September 2009 to April 2021, producing 34 volumes worth of content. The series experienced profound success with over 100 million copies sold as of December 2019. Moreover, it inspired a popular anime adaptation by Wit Studio and MAPPA; the second half of the fourth and final season will premiere in January 2022.
Cartoonist_Fili's drawing isn't the only recent example of mash-up fan art. For example, graphic designer Rahal Nejraoui combined the aesthetics of DC's Superman and Marvel's Ikaris to create a stunning new super-suit, while Twitter user PleaseBeXcited made a creepy new movie poster for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by integrating a popular internet meme. Another artist, known as Mimi on Twitter, recreated the iconic movie poster for Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira with Legend of Zelda characters.
Attack on Titan is available to stream on Netflix, Hulu, Funimation and Crunchyroll, and Ratatouille can be found on Disney+.
