The Quintessential Quintuplets The Movie released new art of its titular siblings.
Per Comic Natalie, the new illustration depicts the five Nakano sisters welcoming the end of winter by viewing a cherry blossom bloom. The art was released to promote the upcoming release of the anime movie, which picks up the story from where Season 2 of the TV show left off and will serve as the grand finale for the popular romance series. The film is scheduled to be released in Japan on May 20.
The Quintessential Quintuplets was created by Negi Haruba in 2017 and was originally serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine. The rom-com was one of the top 5 best-selling manga series in Japan in 2019 run and won a Kodansha Manga Award. An anime adaptation, which is produced by Tezuka Productions (Astro Boy, Kids on the Slope), premiered in 2019 and received a similarly positive reception. The second season of the anime was delayed by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, but eventually aired in 2021. The cast and crew of the anime series will all reprise their roles for the series' feature-length finale.
The series tells the story of Futaro Uesugi, a young man who excels in academics but is hopelessly inept at making both money and friends. In desperate need of funds, Uesugi is hired to be the tutor to the wealthy Nakano family and their five identical quintuplet daughters; the compassionate Ichika, grumpy Nino, quiet Miku, bubbly Yotsuba and finally, the strict youngest sibling, Itsuki Nakano. The story hooks readers and viewers in by immediately revealing that in the future, Uesugi is married to one of the quintuplets, and leaves fans guessing as to which of the sisters he ends up with throughout the story.
The Quintessential Quintuplets manga wrapped up its romantic guessing game in 2020, and Haruba moved on to a new project, Go, Go, Loser Ranger!, which is a parody of Japanese tokusatsu (masked hero) shows such as Power Rangers and Kamen Rider. Unfortunately, the comedy series was placed on in-definite hiatus in September 2021 after Haruba was afflicted with an unspecified health condition. Production on the manga has yet to resume.
The first two seasons of the anime are available for streaming on both Crunchyroll and Funimation. The manga is available in English in both print and digital formats from Kodansha USA. Details about the movie's release outside of Japan have yet to be announced.
