The first trailer for Prey, 20th Century Studios' Predator prequel from director Dan Trachtenberg, has unleashed its first full, viciously violent trailer.
Prey marks the newest entry in the Predator franchise, which began in 1987 with the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring Predator. The new film, directed by 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Boys' Trachtenberg, is set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago and follows a young warrior named Naru who encounters a malicious Yautja she must battle. "[Naru] has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people," 20th Century Studios said of the film. "The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries."
Prey is produced by John Davis (The Predator, Jungle Cruise), Jhane Myers (Monsters of God) and Marty Ewing (It: Chapter Two, The Accountant). Lawrence Gordon (Watchmen), Ben Rosenblatt (Snowpiercer), Marc Toberoff (Fantasy Island, Piranha 3D) James E. Thomas and John C. Thomas all serve as executive producers.
Wanting to create a film that accurately portrays the Comanche, Myers serves as a Native Comanche producer and the cast is almost entirely comprised of Native and First Nation talent. Cast members include Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush and Julian Black Antelope. American Horror Stories' Dane DiLiegro stars as the Predator.
Prey releases as a Hulu Original on Aug. 5 in the United States, Star+ in Latin America and under Disney+'s Star banner in all other territories. The film will come with Comanche as a language option and with Comanche subtitles, which marks the first time a feature-length film has been entirely available in the Comanche language on a streaming platform.
Predator was directed by John McTiernan and additionally starred Carl Weathers, Elpidia Carrillo, Shane Black, Bill Duke and more. Director Stephen Hopkins' Predator 2 starring Danny Glover and Gary Busey followed in 1990. The third film in the franchise, Predators, released in 2010 and starred Adrien Brody, Topher Grace and Laurence Fishburne. Black returned to the franchise in 2018 with The Predator, which starred Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes and Jacob Tremblay. The franchise has also crossed over with the Aliens movies in 2004's Alien vs. Predator and 2007's Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.
Prey releases on Aug. 5.
