WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Platinum End Episode 9, "The Face of an Assassin," now streaming on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
Platinum End protagonist Mirai Kakehashi only wants to live an ordinary life of humble happiness, but paradoxically, he must fight and in this heavenly battle royale so he can achieve the pacifistic life he's always desired. He has a few allies to rely on, but at this rate, they may leave him behind in the battle to choose the next God.
Mirai had previously teamed up with his crush, Saki Hanakago, to face their mutual enemy, Metropoliman. In light of recent events, Saki may become the team's strongest and most decisive fighter after all -- despite Mirai's protagonist status. At the same time, Saki's patron angel, Revel, prepares to step up his game as well.
Saki has already contributed to Mirai's three-person team in Platinum End by allowing him and Mukaido to use her bedroom as a base of operations, and she helps provide tactical input now and then. For the most part Saki has blended into the background during the battle royale, and couldn't do a thing while Mirai and Mukaido battled Girl A and Metropoliman at the Great Tower. One evening, Saki confessed her guilt to Mirai, pertaining to her role in mocking him behind his back and excluding him at school. Fortunately, Mirai and Saki overcame the latter's personal demons, and now she has a much clearer and focused mindset for the battles ahead.
Now a braver and more decisive God candidate, Saki wants to step up her game however she can. Mukaido lends her a hand, promising to make her a high-tech suit of armor to match his own and Mirai's. This outfit, which has a distinct "cat-girl" theme, includes a tail to disperse waste heat and secret tech to boost Saki's physical strength, most likely for self-defense in future battles against Metropoliman. Saki does not yet have angel wings and thus cannot join her allies when they race off to fight Hajime Sokotani -- but that may change soon. Revel won't rest until Saki gets her own wings so she can put her newfound courage to good use.
Saki cannot yet do much with her newfound courage and fancy new suit, but these are promising developments for her all the same. Most likely, she will be able take Metropoliman by total surprise in the next battle, switching from a quiet background role to that of a frontline fighter -- and Revel can help.
Like his human client, Revel wants to push himself to the next level and be more helpful to the team by gaining more knowledge and proving himself worthy of gaining the special rank. In this way, the angel can give Saki wings and perhaps white arrows, greatly boosting her combat prowess as a result. With this goal, Revel becomes the first known angel with a clear goal and ambition in Platinum End.
Revel pushes himself to the limit, inserting one divine knowledge orb after another into his head to work his way toward gaining that rank. It's not easy, but Saki and the threat of Metropoliman inspire him to keep at it, and he shows remarkably human tenacity and guts in the face of this challenge. That's exactly the kind of angel Saki needs watching over her.
