Cast member of the widely beloved Overlord anime recently confirmed that the series will continue.
During a live stream dedicated to the Overlord anime, Satoshi Hino (Ains), Yumi Hara (Albedo) and Sumire Uesaka (Shalltear) confirmed that the Overlord anime will receive a fourth season produced by studio Madhouse. The announcement of the new season was accompanied by an announcement for a new anime film, which will adapt the light novels' Sei Ōkoku-hen (translated as Holy Kingdom Arc). In addition to these announcements, the stream also revealed two new key visuals for the fourth season. Currently, there are no release dates for either project.
The stream also confirmed the return of several cast and crew members for the fourth season. The returning crew includes Naoyuki Itou (Chihayafuru, Digimon Savers, No Guns Life) as director, Yukie Sugawara (Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, Sword Art Online, Kino's Journey: The Beautiful World) as script supervisor and Satoshi Tasaki (Ace of Diamond, Hunter x Hunter Movie 1: Phantom Rouge) as character designer. South Korean artist so-bin, who designed the cover artwork for the Overlord light novels and designed the new key visuals, will assume work on the anime's original character designs once more. As for the cast, reuniting with the previously mentioned Satoshi Hino, Yumi Hara and Sumire Uesaka are Emiri Katō, Yumi Uchiyama, Masayuki Katou and Kenta Miyake in their reoccurring roles as Aura, Mare, Demiurge and Cocytus respectively.
No further details about the film were revealed, and its cast and crew have yet to be confirmed, but illustrator so-bin did tease some details about the new season. According to so-bin, the tenth volume of the Overlord light novels, one of his particular favorites, is "finally" going to be animated this season. Director Itou also added that the staff is already working hard on the new season.
Overlord has become one of the most well-known and popular anime in the isekai genre, being featured in the spoof series Isekai Quartet and even a recent isekai exhibition in the Kadokawa Culture Museum. The series has garnered praise for its unique protagonist within the isekai genre and its darker take on the genre as a whole. The anime has had three seasons since its premier in 2015, with both Crunchyroll and Funimation offering the anime on their streaming services. Funimation also streams an original English dub for all three seasons.
The Overlord franchise began in 2010 with the online publication of author Kugane Maruyama's light novels. Kadokawa subsidiary Enterbrain began publishing the novels in print with illustrations by so-bin in 2012, and a manga adaptation published by Kadokawa Shoten began in 2014. The series has currently published fourteen volumes and is expected to complete its story in the seventeenth and final volume.
