Netflix announced that the eighth and ninth One Piece animated movies, Episode of Arabasta and Episode of Chopper: Bloom in Winter, Miracle Sakura, are coming to its streaming service.
The classic anime movies were both briefly featured in Netflix's monthly round-up of new titles and will both be added to the company's streaming library sometime in February. Netflix's first new addition, Episode of Arabasta, is a 2007 compilation movie that offers an abridged version of the Arabasta arc. The full, televised version of the arc is already available for streaming on the platform. The second movie, Episode of Chopper, was originally released in 2008 and is a remake of the Drum Island Arc. The theatrical version of the story adds in several addition characters who weren't originally part of the arc, including Nico Robin and Franky.
Netflix is likely building up its library of One Piece titles in the build-up to the premiere of its upcoming live-action remake of the series. While other One Piece titles have appeared on Netflix in the past, in the United States, currently only the first four arcs, which comprise roughly the first 100 episodes of the series, are available on the service. The series premiered its 1000th episode last November.
The live-action One Piece was originally announced in 2017. The series is being produced by Netflix and Tomorrow Studios, the production company behind the short-lived Cowboy Bebop live-action series. The series announced its cast late last year, which stars Go, Youth! and Who Killed Sara?'s Iñaki Godoy as the series' stretchy protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy. Series creator Eiichiro Oda is working on the remake as an executive producer.
Netflix has yet to reveal any official photos of the cast in costume or on set, but an eagle-eyed fan in South Africa recently shared photos of what appear to be the live-action show's various pirate ships, in various states of construction. While the images are blurry, the distinct shape of the Miss Love Duck, the distinctively decorated pirate ship captained by "Iron Mace" Alvida, can be seen.
In addition to Netflix, the One Piece anime can also be streamed on Crunchyroll, Funimation and Hulu. Eiichiro Oda's original manga is available in English in both print and digital formats from VIZ Media. The live-action remake of the series currently has no release date.
