In the world of One Piece, there are many kinds of devil fruits that grant their wielder amazing powers, but the most powerful of the paramecia type is easily the Gura Gura no Mi or Tremor-Tremor Fruit. The Tremor-Tremor Fruit was originally wielded by Whitebeard, Edward Newgate, and the current holder of the power is Blackbeard, Marshall D. Teach. Each devil fruit has its own advantages and weaknesses, but when it comes to the Tremor-Tremor Fruit, it almost seems like there are no disadvantages to the tremendous power. Here are five strange secrets one must know in order to prepare themselves if they come face-to-face with the Tremor-Tremor Fruit.
The Tremor-Tremor Fruit is a Calamity To The World
The Tremor-Tremor Fruit has been labeled as the most powerful paramecia devil fruit in existence in the One Piece universe. Aside from it being used by Whitebeard, one of the most fearsome pirates at the time, the devil fruit has the potential to destroy the world! As stated by Admiral Sengoku in Chapter 552, “It may very well be us that meet our end here today… Because that man… Holds the power to destroy the very world!!!” For one devil fruit to contain so much power almost seems unfair, but only a worthy person capable of wielding its power can successfully utilize the Tremor-Tremor Fruit to their advantage.
Whitebeard’s Devil Fruit Is a Double-Edged Sword
With great power comes great responsibility, and the Tremor-Tremor Fruit is no exception. Whitebeard is not seen flashing his abilities all the time simply because the power affects everyone and everything in its path. That is why he is always engaging in close combat while relying on his own Haki to enhance his abilities. Whitebeard is known as the master of the Tremor-Tremor Fruit, but it’s quake abilities affects the environment so drastically, that his own crewmates could get injured in the crossfire. Therefore, Whitebeard must always be careful when using his devil fruit powers, and given how he treats his crew like family, there must be second thoughts that cross his mind before unleashing the full force of the Tremor-Tremor Fruit.
Whitebeard Can Shake Entire Islands With Air Quakes
Whitebeard has the ability to manipulate the Sea, Land, and the Air to gain the upper hand in battle. As far as paramecia type devil fruits go, the Tremor-Tremor Fruit is in a class of its own. In the battle at Marineford, Whitebeard uses the “Island Shaking” abilities of his devil fruit to split the sea in bizarre ways. The air is vibrated to manipulate the sea and islands to create different shifts in the typography, which splits up the Marine forces. It resembles air scythes ripping through the land and sea, and no other paramecia type devil fruit has been known to drastically change the environment.
Whitebeard's Busoshoku Haki Can Counter the Devil Fruit's Force
Regardless of how powerful the Tremor-Tremor Fruit is, there are powers that can compete with and rival its tremendous force. Bososhoku Haki has been shown the be able to cancel the vibrations from destroying certain areas. The Admiral of Marineford unleashed their Busoshoku Haki on Marineford’s execution platform, as Whitebeard unleashed shock waves to cancel the overall force. Busoshoku Haki alone won’t probably do the trick, someone with a great affinity for Haki must be able to match Whitebeard's output of force. There are plenty of characters in One Piece who use different forms and levels of Haki, but it’s fair to say that not all of them have their abilities mastered enough to match the devastating force of the Tremor-Tremor Fruit.
Whitebeard’s “Awakening” Was Passed On
Blackbeard’s strange tactic to acquire the Tremor-Tremor Fruit power from Whitebeard is still unknown, but it seems that he also inherited the abilities Newgate mastered over the years. The Tremor-Tremor fruit is difficult to control given that the vibrations are so erratic, but Whitebeard was able to create spheres that concentrated the force of the Tremor-Tremor power to focus on a single point. Whitebeard is shown doing this when he punches his foes, and even when he stomps with his foot to send quakes. Devil fruits have their own “awakenings”, meaning that the fruit has manifested all of its abilities within the user.
When Blackbeard first uses the power, he is already able to create the concentrated sphere and is almost successful in destroying all of Marineford, which is what Whitebeard tried to do before his untimely death. Blackbeard is a person of the “D.” Therefore, he might have certain abilities that allow him to access the true potential of a devil fruit, but since that is not confirmed, then it most likely seems like Teach learned by simply watching or inherited the abilities altogether.
