X-Men: Apocalypse star Olivia Munn spoke on director Bryan Singer's disappearance and strange behavior while shooting the film.
While doing press for her new film Violet, Munn gave Variety her perspective on the whole Singer debacle during the making of Apocalypse. Munn recalled Singer's infamous ten-day disappearance during the middle of the shot. "Instead of going to a doctor in Montreal, which is a very high-level, working city, he said he had to go to L.A," she recalled. "And he was gone for about 10 days is my recollection. And he said, 'Continue. Keep filming.'" The director even sent an assistant a text message telling the cast and crew to continue filming during his absence.
"I didn’t know what was right or wrong, but I did know that it seems strange that Bryan Singer could check out and say he had a thyroid issue," she said. The ten-day incident and Singer's actions put many higher-ups in film and television on notice, according to Munn.
Despite the Apocalypse incident, Singer went on to helm the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody afterward. Munn was not surprised about Singer's firing from the film after exhibiting similar behavior to that on Apocalypse.
Munn has not been the only star to comment on Singer's behavior and actions, as fellow Apocalypse star Sophie Turner and Bohemian Rhapsody's Rami Malek revealed that working with the troubled director was 'unpleasant.' Along with comments from actors, Singer has faced a career upheaval as he lost his producing credits and the Red Sonja reboot after new sexual abuse allegations came to light within the past two years.
