The upcoming Lupin the 3rd Part 6 celebrates 50 years since the premiere of the original Lupin The Third Part I anime. A new trailer provides fans a preview of what to expect in the newest entry in one of anime's longest-running franchises.
The trailer showcases the international settings, intense action and daring escapes that the franchise is well known for. It also confirms the return of many fan-favorite characters, including Daisuke Jigen (Kiyoshi Kobayashi, Akio Ōtsuka), Goemon Ishikawa XIII (Daisuke Namikawa), Fujiko Mine (Miyuki Sawashiro), Albert Dandregy (Kenjiro Tsuda), Inspector Koichi Zenigate (Kōichi Yamadera) and of course, the titular Arsène Lupin III himself (Kanichi Kurita).
Lupin the 3rd Part 6 will be center around the concept of mysteries and as previously reported, several special guest writers - including popular mystery writer Taku Ashibe (Murder in the Red Chamber) and anime industry-veteran Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Gatchaman II) -- are contributing to the anime's scripts.
The new story will see Lupin and his allies try to steal a secret treasure from The Raven, a shady organization that controls the British government from the shadows. They will also face off against none other than Sherlock Holmes (Masato Obara). This will not be the first battle between Sherlock and Lupin; in a 1981 television special, titled Lupin vs. Holmes, Toei Animation pitted the famous detective against the master thief in a showdown of wits and intellect.
TMS Entertainment (D. Gray-man Hallow, Dr. Stone) is producing Lupin the 3rd Part 6, and many veterans of the Lupin III franchises are returning to be part of the new anime's creative team, including longtime series composer Yuji Ohno. Other members of the creative team include Hirotaka Marufuji (Lupin III: Prison of the Past, Lupin III: the Last Job), who is one of the show's main character designers, Hiromi Miyawaki (Lupin III vs. Detective Conan The Movie), who is the color key artist, and Takahiro Okura (Lupin the 3rd Part 5), who in charge of series composition. Masato Yoshitake (Lupin III: Goodbye Partner) is overseeing the editing process, Hiromune Kurahashi (Lupin III: Prison of the Past) is handling the sound effects and Youji Shimizu (Lupin the 3rd: Blood Seal of the Eternal Mermaid, Lupin the Third: Goemon's Blood Spray) is directing the sound.
Lupin the 3rd Part 6 is scheduled to premiere Oct. 1o in Japan on Nippon TV and other NNS networks. Sentai Filmworks, which licensed the anime in North American, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia and all Nordic countries, will stream the anime through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.
