Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced Gundam Breaker Battlogue, a new cross-media project that aims to connect the Gundam anime, video games and plastic models together in a new way.
According to Bandai, the goal of its new Gundam Breaker Battlogue project is to "fuse their digital and physical products together." In order to do that, the company has announced a new series of animated short films, a video game and a new line of GunPla model kits. Similar to the 2013 spinoff Gundam Build Fighters, Gundam Breaker Battlogue will feature redesigned versions of mobile suits pulled from other series within the Gundam franchise.
The new video game will encourage players to create their own Gundam from a set of customizable parts, and the new line of model kits will also feature those same parts so fans can recreate their in-game creations as physical models, or vice-versa. The Gundam Breaker Battlogue anime films, which will be produced by studio Sunrise, will be available for streaming via the official Gundam series YouTube channel or through the Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare game app, featuring in-game missions that tie into the story of the anime.
Battlogue is a continuation of the Gundam Breaker sub-series that began with a game released exclusively in Japan for the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita in 2013. The fourth game in the series and the first to get an international release, New Gundam Breaker, was released for the PC and Playstation 4 in 2018.
In 2020, the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise celebrated the 40th anniversary of the original series premiere. Bandai has also announced the first three Gundam anime series, as well as the latest film in the franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, will be made available for streaming via Netflix this summer. A sequel to 2002's Mobile Suit Gundam SEED was also recently revealed, and is currently in development.
