The first details of My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission DVD and Blu-ray release have been announced.
According to the official World Heroes' Mission website, the home video release of the movie will include an all-new original video animation (OVA) which will be an adaptation of the No. XXX Hawks: SOOTHE chapter of the manga, which was previously handed out to theater-goers who saw the film within its first few weeks of release. The movie will also be released in a "Plus Ultra Edition" that will also include additional collectibles like a 44-page informational booklet, special postcards and more.
World Heroes' Mission debuted in Japan on Aug. 6 and in English-speaking countries on Oct. 29, and is the high-grossing movie in the franchise globally, earning an estimated gross of $40.3 million. Set during the Endeavor Agency Arc, the movie sees Izuku Midoriya and his classmates team up with Pro-Heroes from around the world to stop a terrorist plot that threatens to bring an end to humanity.
Produced by Bones -- the studio behind the My Hero Academia TV anime series -- the film was directed by Kenji Nagasaki (My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising) and written by Yōsuke Kuroda (Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online, Mobile Suit Gundam 00). Yuki Hayashi (Shaman King, Welcome to the Ballroom) composed the music, Mayuko Furumoto (Noragami, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) oversaw the cinematography and Yoshihiko Umakoshi (Saint Seiya Omega, Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor) designed the characters.
The cast of the My Hero Academia TV series reprised their roles for World Heroes' Mission. This includes Daiki Yamashita, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Yuki Kaji, Tetsu Inada and Yuichi Nakamura from the original Japanese version and Justin Briner, Clifford Chapin, David Matranga, Patrick Seitz and Zeno Robinson from the English dub.
The home release of World Heroes' Mission and its Plus Ultra Edition isn't the only recent development in the superhero franchise that has fans excited. The live-action musical adaptation of My Hero Academia is being streamed globally and the identity of the traitor with UA High School has finally been revealed in the manga.
The home video version of World Heroes' Mission is scheduled for release in Japan on Feb. 16, 2022, with the Blu-ray version retailing for 8,580 yen (US$76) and the DVD version selling for 7,480 yen (US$66). While the movie has already received an English dub, the Japanese Plus Ultra edition will only include Japanese audio and no English subtitles.
