WARNING: The following contains spoilers for My Hero Academia Chapter 347, "Inflation,” by Kohei Horikoshi, Caleb Cook and John Hunt, available now in English from Viz Media.
Toga Himiko has always been the least mentally stable member of the League of Villains. Her eccentric personality never made much sense to even her teammates but on some level, there was always a method to the madness. Toga's appearances always result in My Hero Academia's tensest situations since no one is capable of predicting her next move -- but her latest stunt in Chapter 347 may be as deadly for Midoriya Izuku as it is baffling.
Toga has always expressed feelings of love and admiration in a highly unique manner. Her obsession with becoming like those she loves -- and her Quirk's ability to transform into those whose blood she's ingested -- lead to the very unfortunate complex that compels Toga to physically harm the objects of her love. She finds bloodied people the most attractive and insists on making those she's infatuated with bleed so they can look their best in her eyes.
Debate has raged over whether Toga actually does feel love for those she claims to -- or if that was just a young schoolgirl's way of rationalizing her killing impulses -- but the MHA manga has just settled it for good. After pulling Deku through a Warp Gate to Okuto Island, 200 miles from UA, Toga attacked him with her signature blade, slashing at him with unambiguous intent to harm. Interestingly, despite the seriousness with which she attacks him, his Danger Sense Quirk never gets triggered.
The Fourth’s Danger Sense doesn't simply alert Deku to potentially dangerous situations around him but rather picks up on malicious intent directed at him. Just like when Class 1-A fought to bring him back to UA, Danger Sense was silent even as Toga continued to slash away, begging him not to leave to face Shigaraki. Finding out Toga really meant him no harm was quite surprising for Deku, but it was nothing compared to the reason she gave for dragging him away from his planned battlefield.
When Deku asked what Toga desires from him, she reveals that she wants him to be her boyfriend. The confession, though unexpected, is consistent with her behavior toward him from their first meeting. Back at the UA summer training camp, Deku was narrowly saved from getting stabbed with Toga's knife by Shoji Mezo, prompting Toga to reply that Shoji intended to get between their "relationship". Her "feelings" for Deku evidently haven't changed since then, including her urge to make him bleed even more.
Deku has prior experience dealing with the slippery Toga in My Hero Academia, but Danger Sense not working on her makes things all the trickier. When they crossed paths again at the Provisional Hero Licensing Exam, Toga revealed the startling ability to "erase" her presence with a secret training technique. She was able to completely outmaneuver him back then, and now that her gloves are off, granting Toga the opportunity to get as close as she did back then might spell the end for Deku. Of course, Deku himself has powered up significantly since then, so Toga won't be able to corner him so effortlessly. Either way, their match-up is sure to be thrilling if they actually do trade blows.
