My Hero Academia's Keigo Takami/Hawks is one of the more laid-back Pro Heroes introduced throughout the series. Though he sometimes has a darker demeanor than others, he's incredibly skilled in using his Quirk, Fierce Wings. And while not as strong as other heroes' Quirks like One For All or Mt. Lady's Gigantification, he's mastered the mental and physical abilities having a pair of giant wings requires.
Not to mention, being named the Number Two Hero after All Might's retirement certainly speaks for Hawks' merits. After all, that's not a position that is given to anyone -- just ask Endeavor. With such a remarkable achievement at a relatively young age, let's take a look at five facts about Hawks' Fierce Wings.
Hawks Can Use His Feathers as Weapons
Hawks can utilize the individual quills from his wings as makeshift swords or throwing daggers. These feathers are quite strong despite their frail nature and can easily slice through enemies without much trouble. He can wield them as a bladed weapon in his hand, or he can fire multiple feathers at once in a barrage of smaller attacks. On top of this, his feathers are so strong that he can use them to carry things like people or large boulders. This is his way of compensating for his lack of physical strength. However, using the feathers in this manner has a significant drawback.
Hawks' Wings Can Run Out of Feathers
Fierce Wings' major weakness is that, eventually, Hawks can run out of feathers to use. The more feathers he uses, the smaller his wings become. This hinders his ability to fly, and once they are all used up, it takes at least two days for them to regrow. Hawks only resorts to using them all in dire circumstances, so he is very mindful about how many he uses and how he uses them. Since his feathers are limited in quantity, Hawks focuses more on individual, direct actions than large-scale ones. Another significant weakness of his feathers is that they are not immune to fire, so having them burned hinders his movements and how many he can send out.
Hawks Can Telekinetically Control The Feathers
As if being able to use the feathers as weapons and flying weren't enough, Hawks can also control the feathers with his mind. He can send out waves of feathers, then call them back to reform his wings, controlling the attacks' speed and angle. Hawks has such substantial control over his feathers that he can even focus on doing something else, like holding conversations or helping someone, while the feathers are doing what he wants them to. A master of multitasking, Hawks doesn't have to entirely focus on the feathers' task for them to be effective.
Hawks Can Spy on Others Using Vibrations
In a more exciting display of his Quirk, Hawks can use a feather to sense someone's presence and even hear what the person is saying by using the feather to feel changes in vibrations. This allows him to spy on others from great distances and never be noticed. Once he's done listening in, he can then recall the feather, and his target would be none the wiser. Like a bat's sense of echolocation, Hawks' feathers sense changes in the air to discern the vocal patterns and differences in speech, allowing him to distinguish between people. Combine that with his enhanced eyesight, and this is one of his more dangerous abilities.
Hawks Could Probably Break The Sound Barrier
Fierce Wings' primary benefit is that Hawks' speed is one of the highest among the heroes. He's so fast that many people can't visually keep up with him as he finishes most fights before backup arrives. Ranked at an S-Class in Speed, he is one of the top contenders for the fastest hero. This leads to the question, could Hawks use his wings to fly at such a speed that he breaks the sound barrier?
Hawks can likely gain enough velocity that he could shatter the sound barrier. Some factors affect this, like weather and sea level, but he would need to travel at least 770 miles per hour or 1,239 kilometers per hour to achieve this. Endeavor can break the sound barrier while using his flames, and if we take the series' Ultra Analysis Book into account, he only ranks out at an A for Speed, whereas Hawks is an S-rank.
However, whether that rank includes his fire powers to enhance his speed is something to take into account. Regardless, Hawks could reach that same speed with ease and most likely surpass it if he pushed himself to the edge of his abilities.
