Funimation has released two new clips from My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission.
The new videos showcase two of the more action packed scenes from World Heroes' Mission, the third movie in the My Hero Academia franchise. The first clip shows Todoroki, a young hero-in-training with the ability to manipulate both fire and ice, struggling in his fight against Leviathan, one of the movie's new villains. The second clip introduces Rody, one of the new heroes who eventually ends up aiding Deku in the movie, though the clip shows that the two characters don't necessarily begin their relationship on friendly terms.
The highly anticipated movie opened last week in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and South America. In the United States, the film ranked fourth in terms of box-office performance for the weekend, behind big budget productions such as Dennis Villenueve's sci-fi epic Dune and the latest James Bond movie, No Time to Die, but it is still on track to be the highest grossing movie in the franchise so far. Theater-goers who saw World Heroes' Mission in its opening weekend were treated to a limited-edition booklet that features an exclusive chapter of the manga, behind the scenes art and interviews with the movie's cast and crew, including series creator Kohei Horikoshi, who wrote the story for this movie himself.
World Heroes' Mission broke franchise sales records when it was released in Japan earlier this year; despite being out for less time and being released at a time when Japan was in the middle of a COVID-19 related state of emergency and theaters were facing attendance restrictions, the movie grossed significantly more than either of the previous two films in the series.
World Heroes' Mission is set during the events of the fifth season of the anime, and begins with Deku being blamed for a brutal mass murder. Now on the run from the law, the series' wholesome best boy enlists the help of two of his UA High classmates, the explosive Bakugo and the previously mentioned Todoroki, to help him clear his name. Along the way, the trio meet several new heroes as they travel their world to unravel the connection between Deku's framing and a mysterious cult, who want to stop the spread of superpower-granting Quirks.
MHA fans still have plenty to look forward to following the release of World Heroes' Mission; the manga recently resumed publication following its latest hiatus, and the TV anime's producers have already confirmed that the show will return for a sixth season, which will adapt the eventful Paranormal Liberation War arc.
