To say the Octopus Recordings crew have had a prolific start to 2021 would be somewhat of an understatement. With a wealth of huge releases already clocked from the likes of HI-LO, Indira Paganotto, Stiv Hey, Ramon Tapia, Alex Stein and label boss Sian in just a few short months, the team have also been busy masterminding a hugely successful Twitch channel launch, curating and producing three full days of exclusive content each week to an increasingly engaged global audience.
Now, and having just celebrated their landmark two-hundredth release at the beginning of March, the Los Angeles-based imprint continues on its mission to deliver the most dynamic, forward-thinking soundscapes around, as it welcomes French techno stalwart Matt Sassari for his eagerly anticipated label debut, House Before It Was Techno EP.
Out now, the two-part package is everything we’ve come to expect and more from the in-form, Marseilles-born producer, who arrives armed with a catalogue of critically acclaimed releases on the likes of Terminal M, Tronic, SCI+TEC, Truesoul, Deeperfect, Stereo Productions and his own Panterre Musique, to name just a few.
Igniting the double-sided cut with the upfront title track House Before It Was Techno, Sassari goes all-in from the off, delivering a masterful blend of driving kicks, delicate hi-hats and exquisitely layered vocal samples to masterful effect. On the flip, the Panterre Musique label boss demonstrates his production versatility with the equally impressive Grace, building a trippy array of punchy bass, shuffling rhythms and soulful vocal samples, to close out another remarkable EP on Octopus Recordings.
