The following article contains spoilers for Devil's Reign #6, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
New York City's superheroes attend the funeral of Matthew Murdock following Marvel Comics' Daredevil event.
Devil's Reign: Omega #1 serves as an epilogue to Mayor Wilson Fisk/Kingpin's war on the city's superheroes through the Powers Act, which outlawed superhuman activity and sent the law after superheroes. During the event, Kingpin used the mind-manipulating powers of the Purple Man to remember that Matt Murdock is Daredevil and killed him in brutal fashion. In a preview for the Omega issue, heroic teams like the Fantastic Four and the Defenders mourn Murdock -- just not the right one.

Kingpin actually murdered Mike Murdock, Matt Murdock's twin brother. While Mike is not Matt's actual twin and was originally a fictional identity used by Matt, he became real after some reality warping by an Inhuman, Reader. During writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Marco Checchetto's first Daredevil run, which leads right into Devil's Reign after Daredevil #36, Daredevil is sent to prison in Daredevil #25 and Mike assumes Matt's life while he is incarcerated. Mike never knew that Matt is Daredevil, and Kingpin kills the wrong Murdock in Matt's apartment while believing Mike to be the Man Without Fear.
Some of the funeral's attendees know that they are not really mourning their friend. The Defenders and Matt's best friend, Foggy Nelson, know that Matt is Daredevil, which is a likely reason why Foggy does not deliver the eulogy at the service. Instead, Kirsten McDuffie, a love interest for Matt, speaks to everyone at the funeral.
Matt is about to venture off with another love interest, Elektra Natchios, when Daredevil relaunches in June 2022. Both Zdarsky and Checchetto will return to create the series that is set to explore the two Daredevils working together to take down the Hand, which is currently led by the Punisher, Frank Castle. Devil's Reign: Omega will serve as a precursor to the new Daredevil series, as well as other developments in the Marvel Universe.
The preview reveals that when Kingpin fled with his wife, Typhoid Mary, at the end of Devil's Reign #6, the happy couple likely wound up in Doctor Doom's kingdom, Latveria. The issue is also set to explore Luke Cage's new role as New York City's mayor and how the city's people will behave towards superheroes after Kingpin made them out to be the enemy.
Devil's Reign: Omega #1 includes stories written by Zdarsky, Rodney Barnes and Jim Zub, with interior art from Rafael de Latorre, Guillermo Sanna and Luciano Vecchio, and colors by Federico Blee, Dijjo Lima, Carlos Zopez and Java Tartaglia. Letters for the issue were done by VC's Clayton Cowles and Joe Sabino, and main cover art by In-Hyuk Lee. The issue goes on sale May 25 from Marvel Comics.
