Lupin III: Prison of the Past and Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet are both set to premiere their English dubs at Anime NYC.
According to Anime News Network, TMS Entertainment has announced that it will screen the English dubs for both the Lupin III: Prison of the Past and Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet anime films at the upcoming Anime NYC convention, which will be held from Nov. 19-21.
Lupin the Third was originally a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by mangaka Kazuhito Kato under the pen name Monkey Punch. The story follows Arsene Lupin III, the world's greatest thief, and his friends as they go on adventures and evade Inspector Koichi Zenigata, a police detective who has made it his life's work to catch them. Since its premiere in 1967, the manga has since been adapted into anime, live-action films, OVAs, TV specials, musicals, CDs, and video games.
Lupin III: Prison of the Past is the 27th TV special in the franchise, which originally aired in Japan in November 2019. Animated by studio TMS Entertainment and directed by Hatsuki Tsuji, the film follows Lupin and his team as they infiltrate the Kingdom of Dorrente to rescue a famous criminal from prison, all the while the best thieves in the world converge on the country. The English dub of this movie will be screened at Anime NYC on Nov. 20 at 3:30 P.M. EST in Panel 4 of the Javits Center. The series' English voice actors, including Tony Oliver (the voice of Lupin,) Richard Epcar (Jigen), Lex Lang (Goemon), Michelle Ruff (Fujiko), and Doug Erholtz (Zenigata), will be in attendance at the premiere. Fans in attendance will receive a Lupin III face mask, which was specially designed for the premiere.
Detective Conan, also known as Case Closed, is originally a Japanese detective manga series written and illustrated by author Gosho Aoyama. It was first serialized in 1994 in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday. The story follows Shinichi Kudo, a high school detective who is forcibly turned into a child when one of his investigations goes awry. Adopting the pseudonym Conan Edogawa to keep his identity secret, he begins living with his childhood friend Ran Mori and her father Kogoro Mori, whom he begins solving cases with, all the while vowing to find the people who turned him into a child and find an antidote to the chemical that caused his transformation. Since its original premiere in 1994, the manga has since been adapted into multiple anime series, video games, audio disc releases, and live-action episodes.
Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet is the 24th film installment in the franchise, which originally premiered in Japan in April 2021. Animated by studio TMS Entertainment and directed by Tomoka Nagaoka, the film follows Conan as he investigates a crisis that occurs at the World Sports Games in Tokyo. The English dub of this movie will screen at Anime NYC on Nov. 21 at 11:30am EST in Panel 4 of the Javits Center.
This year's Anime NYC will be held from Nov. 19 - 21. The convention will require attendees to present proof of COVID-19 vaccinations and wear face masks.
