Netflix has released a series of new posters showcasing the characters of Arcane, its upcoming animated series set in the world of Riot Games' popular MOBA, League of Legends.
The new series is set before the events of the game and will focus on the city of Piltover and the characters who reside within it, including Vi, the hot-headed pugilist, who will be voiced by Bumblebee and Hawkeye star Hailee Steinfeld; and Jayce, who will be portrayed by Arrow's Kevin Alejandro. Sweetbitter's Ella Purnell will play the role of criminal Jinx, while Harry Potter's Katie Leung will voice the city's sharpshooting sheriff Caitlyn. The series will also star Jason Spisak as Silco, Toks Olagundoye as Mel, JB Blanc in the role of Vander, and Harry Lloyd as Viktor.
Arcane was originally scheduled to premiere in 2020, but was delayed due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. The series will now make its premiere on Netflix this fall.
The show represents one of the many ways Riot Games is attempting to expand the League of Legends franchise beyond the original game. Riot previously collaborated with Marvel on two comics that explored the lore and the backstories of the characters seen within the game. The video game company also produced League of Legends Wild Rift, a mobile spinoff of the original game, and is currently working on Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, a turned based RPG that will be released for PCs and all modern console platforms. Riot is also working on an unnamed massively-multiplayer online RPG set in the same universe as League.
