WARNING: the following contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 9 of Laid-Back Camp, now streaming on Crunchyroll.
There's more than one way to go camping. Sometimes, it's more fun to go in a group, like when Nadeshiko and her pals saw the New Year's day sunrise together, other times, it's better alone. After giving solo camping a try, Nadeshiko figures she's no Rin, and would rather go camping with the whole squad.
Nadeshiko is back with the group, and ready to explore new vistas in Japan's Izu region. Everyone's eager to go, but with exams coming up, they can't forget their responsibilities as students. Luckily, a special occasion is just over the horizon that'll be the perfect chance to get together in the great outdoors.
Nadeshiko, Aoi and Chiaki finally have plenty of experience under their belts and figure an early March trip sounds about right. When Chiaki mentions that the 4th is Aoi's birthday, Nadeshiko mentions the 4th is her birthday too, making that the perfect date for an extra-special birthday camping trip. In the meantime, the girls focus on studying for some upcoming tests, and after hitting the books and netting solid scores on their tests, everything is set for the trip.
By now, each of the girls has figured out her own camping style, and Nadeshiko has discovered her passion for outdoor cooking. She spent most of her solo trip experimenting with cooking vegetables, and for the group trip, Nadeshiko wants to cooking something new to make the trip memorable. Nadeshiko is still toying with ideas when her father happens by, and he suggests a few ingredients that he heard about on TV, giving her the perfect inspiration. Meanwhile, Rin makes some adjustments to her moped.
Rin, as a solo camper at heart, needs a way to get around, and she's got a moped for the job. It's a reliable ride, but Rin thinks it's time for some enhancements, and her father and grandfather are both ready to help. Rin's grandfather suggests a windshield, based on the areas where Rin wants to travel next (known for their strong winds), so he volunteers to install the windshield. That's not all; Rin adds a brace that can hold her smartphone, so she can check digital maps while driving, rather than pull over several times to consult a paper map. That can cut down on her travel time, though it's important to install a relay so the phone doesn't drain the moped's battery by accident.
Rin always knew that her father liked to travel by moped and motorcycle, but she's surprised to hear that her mother used to do it too, making them an entire family of adventurers. Rin is ready to live up to the family spirit with her next trip, a solo trip that she's been meaning to take for some time now. But she hasn't forgotten about the group trip to Izu for Nadeshiko's and Aoi's shared birthday, and she reflects that it's technically spring now. She's looking forward to the warm, lively camping season to come.
