WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 10 of Laid-Back Camp, now streaming on Crunchyroll.
By now the members of the Outdoors Activity Club have figured out their own styles and preferences in camping, and have scraped together the cash for the camping supplies they need. So, in Episode 10, the girls are all ready for their biggest and best camping trip yet in the Izu region. It will be a two-day trip with Ms. Toba chaperoning them.
This is no ordinary camping trip, however. Everyone is coming along this time, including Aoi's little sister Akari, and Nadeshiko and Aoi both have a birthday on the 14th. They'll get a birthday treat, but first, the squad has to make it to the campground. Easier said than done.
Adventures On Izu's Roads: Spiral Bridges, Blossom Festivals & Geospots
Everyone piles into Ms. Toba's van for the trip -- except Rin, the local camping expert, who drives separately on her accessorized moped. Poor Nadeshiko looks exhausted. She couldn't sleep the previous night due to sheer exhaustion, so during the drive to Izu's campground, she falls asleep, missing all the fun sights and sounds en route to the campground. The group passes by a few geospots and distinct natural landmarks found in Izu. The journey feels like a roller coaster ride as the van drives down the Kawazu Nanadaru Loop Bridge (somehow, Nadeshiko doesn't wake up from the unexpected g-forces). The girls also stop by Kawazu City to check out its lovely cherry blossom festival, marking the first cherry tree blossoms in all the land.
Finally, Nadeshiko wakes up halfway to the campsite -- only for the Inuyama sisters pull a Rip Van Winkle prank on her. Nadeshiko slept for two whole days, the sisters tell her, and it's time to drive home and check out all the souvenirs. Nadeshiko is panicking until the other campers chastise the prankster sisters, and Nadeshiko calms down enough to enjoy the rest of the drive. Some of Izuku's geospots are a bit barren due to the late winter/early spring weather, but the place is still a sight to see, and it's time to buy some premium ingredients for the camping trip.
Fun & Games In Izu
The girls all love good camping food, and this time they're treating Nadeshiko and Aoi (the birthday girls) to something special: premium dried alfonsino fish. No doubt Nadeshiko and Aoi will love it, but this kind of seafood is rather pricy, and the girls can't afford a suitable follow-up for the next night's dinner. So Chiaki schemes to trick Ms. Toba into buying some high-grade spiny lobster for them, but amazingly Ms. Toba bought it anyway, without any prompting. Turns out, Ena Saito had already nudged her into buying it, meaning Nadeshiko and Aoi will get good fortune from eating first alfonsino fish and then spiny lobster. What a treat.
To Ms. Toba's total surprise, there's a catch: the local beach changed its rules and camping is no longer allowed there. So she calls the Iida family, who help her find another local campground on the beach at Nishiizu City, and the trip is back on track. The girls can resume their outdoor adventure and they've already laid eyes on fascinating new sights and sounds: some unique square stone formations, a lighthouse, and an oddly-shaped mountain named Jouyama.
Chiaki challenges her friends to a foot race up a hill, and the girls reflect on how much fun they're having on this fine March day. It's their most ambitious camping trip yet in Laid-Back Camp, and so far it's working out great. With any luck, the rest of today and the next day will be an Izu-style blast.
