Kaguya-sama: The Student Council Re-Enlists in New Season 3 Art

New Kaguya-sama: Love is War art released.

The series' official Twitter account revealed the new art of the show's supporting cast, which includes student council's eccentric secretary, Chika Fujiwara, and its pessimistic otaku treasurer, Yu Ishigami, who looks uncharacteristically happy for once in the new portrait. Art was also released of Ai Hayasaka, Kaguya's unfortunate servant, and Miku Iino, a newcomer to the student council who is often appalled by their bizarre behavior. The new images were released to promote the upcoming third season of the popular romantic comedy series, which is now entitled Kaguya-sama: Love is War - Ultra Romantic and is scheduled to premiere in Japan this April.

The third season was originally announced shortly after the second season of the show concluded in 2020. A 10-minute preview of the show's continuation was revealed last October with a mini-episode that saw the show's cast lampooning common anime tropes. The series will once again be produced by Fairy Tail's A-1 Pictures and will be directed by Shinichi Omata, who previously helmed the previous seasons of the comedy, as well as the critically acclaimed Descending Stories: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War centers on the Machiavellian courtship that happens between Kaguya Shinomiya, the heir to one of Japan's most powerful and ruthless corporate conglomerates, and Miyuki Shirogane, a working-class student who has managed to excel due to his intelligence and dedication to hard work. The two are selected by their classmates to respectively be the vice-president and president of their high school's student council, where they fall madly in love with each other. Unfortunately for the potential couple, neither Kaguya or Miyuki's egos will allow them to be the one to make the first move, so the two engage in a never-ending battle of psychological warfare, with the goal of getting the other person to confess their feelings first.

The series was created by Aka Akasaka in 2015. The manga has sold over 4 million copies around the world and received a prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award. The manga returned from a 4-month hiatus last October to begin its final story arc. In addition to Kaguya-sama, Akasaka is also the author behind the acclaimed Oshi ni Ko, a new manga series that he created with Scum's Wish illustrator Mengo Yokoyari. The new series has received widespread acclaim and was recently nominated for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.

The first two seasons of the anime are available for streaming on Funimation, Crunchyroll and Hulu. The manga has been localized into English and is distributed both digitally and in print by VIZ Media.
