Kaguya-sama: Love is War is a popular rom-com seinen anime series starring two stubborn lovers who are more interested in a high-stakes battle of wits than breaking out the roses and chocolates. The story centers around the cool and aloof Shinomiya Kaguya and her paramour, the student council president Shirogane Miyuki.
These characters can be described in all sorts of ways, from their MBTI personality types to their blood type, and they can also be assessed according to their astrological signs. Some anime characters fit their signs well, and Shirogane Miyuki embodies his own sign, Virgo, in many ways. No other sign would do for Shuchiin Academy's hardworking council president.
Virgo, Miyuki's Hardworking Earth Sign
Shirogane Miyuki was born on September 9th, meaning he was born under the sign Virgo, one of the three earth signs of astrological lore. Virgo is represented by a maiden and stalk of wheat, symbolizing Virgo's hardworking, down-to-earth nature and diligent attitude. According to the lore, Virgos are naturally adaptable and practical people who will do whatever they must to succeed, and these people are also moderately sociable while ultimately putting family first. While Virgo is a humble and hardworking sign, just like the other two earth signs, Virgos seek validation through acknowledgment and praise from others. They aren't content to work quietly in the background for long.
Virgos are almost like Leos or Aquarius' at times, being people who enjoy rooting themselves firmly in a well-established social circle and nurturing strong relationships. To a lesser extent than Leos, Virgos like to be praised and admired for their hard work, and this may motivate them to work even harder in the future. Paradoxically, Virgos aren't terribly fond of boastful and vain people such as Leos because a Virgo wants to earn all the attention they get through diligent work. Meanwhile, Virgos are even happier in a stable family life, cherishing their parents, children and siblings alike, and a happy household may motivate a Virgo to work harder than ever before.
Virgos are also known for their deliberate and cautious nature; while they are enthusiastic, they don't like to rush into anything before being fully prepared, setting them apart from Libras, Sagittariuses and Leos, among other reckless signs. Instead, Virgos are prone to studying and analyzing a situation or idea before committing to it, if they commit to it at all. This makes Virgos practical and gives them a keen eye for detail, but at times, it may also work against them. Virgos may become perfectionists or experience decision paralysis, or they may wear out other people's patience with their slow, methodical ways, which can limit them as leaders. Virgos are also slow to forgive mistakes or personal wrongs.
Shirogane Miyuki As A Virgo In Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War
Shirogane Miyuki embodies many key aspects of his native Virgo sign, though he doesn't stick to it word-for-word. For example, Miyuki's home life is not quite what a Virgo would want, since his family is a rather tense one, and Miyuki doesn't always get along that well with his single father or his tsundere little sister Kei. In fact, Miyuki's home life may be his biggest weakness, and that would be miserable for any family-oriented Virgo. It seems that Miyuki would have very few regrets about moving out once he graduates high school and starting his own modest household someday -- one better suited for a warm and patient Virgo like him.
However, at school, Miyuki is an exemplary Virgo, since his excellent study habits and methodical mindset are perfect representations of his sign's greatest strengths. Unlike the wealthy Kaguya, Miyuki wasn't born into money and didn't have the benefit of private tutors or influence in the business world. So, he threw himself into his studies, even neglecting much-needed sleep to hit the books and become Shuchiin's #1 student. This diligent attitude also helped him build up the credentials necessary to become the student council president, and he takes that very seriously.
As Miyuki proved during his on-stage debate with Miko, he served as a practical and thoughtful president during his first term, gradually improving Shuchiin as a school without taking any unnecessary risks. Miyuki isn't a visionary leader -- he's a Virgo who uses pragmatic, down-to-earth methods to slowly and surely get results, which later helped him get re-elected.
Miyuki is also a Virgo when it comes to his personal life and the love war with Shinomiya Kaguya. Like her, he is a crafty schemer who won't make a move unless he's got everything planned out, although he is better than Kaguya at improvising new solutions if things go sideways. Indeed, Virgos are known for their adaptability, which helps soften their stubborn and inflexible ways somewhat.
Miyuki is also a committed and patient lover, and he simply can't imagine his life without Kaguya by his side. Virgos prefer stability and routine, and having Kaguya as a fixed point in his life is exactly what Miyuki wants. Kaguya isn't just a classmate -- she's the sun in his sky and the earth beneath his feet. He's in this for the long term, and he'll wait however long he must to get a love confession out of Kaguya and spend the rest of his life with her.
