WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 174 "Sendai Colony, Part 1," by Gege Akutami, John Werry and Snir Aharon, available in English from Viz Media.
The Culling Game in Jujutsu Kaisen has officially shifted focus from the Tokyo Colony, where Yuji and Megumi are, to following Yuta Okkotsu in Sendai. It appears that only four players, including Yuta, remain in this Colony. The other three players are two reincarnated humans and one terrifying Cursed Spirit, all of whom were introduced in the previous chapter. Ryu Ishigori boasted the most points with 77 and he apparently had the highest Cursed Energy output of all the players.
Takako Uro had 70 points and her Cursed Technique allowed her to control the sky. What that means exactly isn't clear but she's seen casually floating in the sky with parts of her body completely transparent. Finally, Kurourushi was a cockroach Cursed Spirit whom Kenjaku freed from Cursed Spirit Manipulation. In the last chapter, it was said to be lying dormant until certain conditions disappeared, but it was suddenly very much active now.
Yuta has 35 points, and it doesn't seem he had any issues earning them. That isn't surprising, considering he's a special-grade sorcerer second only to Satoru Gojo in unusual abilities. Not only has he been swiftly eliminating players, but he's also made sure to gather anyone he can find who isn't a participant in the Culling Game in order to protect them. Yuta's aim was to take them to the edge of the barrier so they can safely exit.
That's interesting because this was the same Colony where Kenjaku offered to move non-participants outside the barrier in Chapter 160. It raises the question, Why are there still people left inside? Either he didn't make that offer to everyone for whatever reason, or he didn't intend to help the ones he did make the offer to. It's become even more likely that these civilians are pawns in one of his twisted schemes. It's worth remembering that Yuji's old friends were among the people he offered to take outside the barrier, which probably isn't a coincidence.
As Yuta was dealing with the civilians, Kurourushi suddenly attacked. The Cursed Spirit sent a swarm of real cockroaches after them, and if that isn't terrifying enough, they've all been reinforced with Cursed Energy. Even Yuta saw them as a real threat as long as they were moving as a swarm. One unlucky civilian was caught by the swarm and they brutally reduced him to a skeleton. Yuta had to summon Rika to help keep them away from the other civilians while he destroyed them with a single powerful blast of Cursed Energy. This show of power surprised and impressed Ryu and Takako, proving that he should not be underestimated.
Kurourushi has an unlimited appetite and is currently in a state of starvation. Eating stimulates parthenogenesis and now it wants to devour Yuta because he interrupted its meal. After seeing how dangerous its attack range is, Yuta is eager to eliminate it in order to ensure it doesn't make it outside this barrier. Moreover, he made it his personal mission to kill Kenjaku himself and get 400 points. Apart from the fact that Kenjaku is the mastermind behind the Culling Game, the reason Yuta is so determined to kill him is to ensure that Gojo won't have to.
For Gojo, it would be like having to kill his best friend again if Kenjaku remains in Geto's body. It's honorable of Yuta to want to save Gojo from having to do that but hopefully, he's not too impatient. Making that a priority at this point may be a waste of time and energy. After all, killing Kenjaku will not end the Culling Game. Being as clever as he is, he made sure of that. Yuta should just keep trying to gain as many points as he can so that they can add the rules they want.
