WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 22 of Jujutsu Kaisen, "The Origin of Blind Obedience," now streaming on Crunchyroll.
Following Jujutsu Kaisen's Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event's intense action, we see Itadori, Fushiguro and Kugisaki taking on a more traditional mission. The trio's mission involves investigating a series of brutal murders that seem to all be connected by the same Curse. By a strange coincidence, the victims all happened to attend Fushiguro's middle school, and as they dig deeper into the mystery, they learn that Fushiguro's sister may have been affected by the same Curse.
A Trip Down Memory Lane For Fushiguro
It's oddly refreshing to see Jujutsu Kaisen take a more procedural approach, giving Itadori, Fushiguro and Kugisaki a mystery to solve. Following the trail a murderous Curse -- which left four casualties in its wake -- the Jujutsu Sorcerers eventually arrive at Fushiguro's old middle school. They encounter a pair of delinquent students who immediately recognize Fushiguro, who used to fight everyone who acted up at the school.
Their sleuthing eventually leads them to an older school employee who recalls that, years ago, the victims had all visited a haunted bridge, gone missing briefly and were later found unconscious under the bridge. In a test of courage, students would dare each other to bungee jump from the top of Yasohachi Bridge; however, it was also the location of frequent suicide.
Fushiguro's Mysterious Past Reveals a Sister
An unsuccessful search of the bridge nearly leads Fushiguro, Itadori and Kugisaki to a dead end until Fujinuma -- a former classmate of Fushiguro and sister of one of the students they encountered earlier -- arrives with more details. Fujinuma reveals that she also visited the bridge, now nervous that there is some connection with the deaths. While trying not to expose too much information, Fushiguro & the team question her, asking if she has experienced anything strange recently.
Fujinuma, like the other victims, had the feeling she was being watched, and the automatic door of her family's shop is always wide open anytime she is home. However, she drops the trio's biggest bomb when revealing that she visited the bridge with Tsumiki, Fushiguro's sister.
Very little is known about Fushiguro's past, and while we've seen a flashback of Tsumiki before, this is the first time there is context added to their relationship. She and Fushiguro seem to have had a very close relationship, with her words echoing in his head earlier in the season during his fight with Sukuna. Though initially hesitant, Fushiguro opens up to Itadori and Kugisaki, explaining that his sister has been in a catatonic state for some time due to a Curse. Fushiguro, and other Jujutsu Sorcerers, have been unsuccessful in waking her up, making it impossible to confirm if she's encountered any additional supernatural occurrences.
Mahito Adds Mayhem
After learning the conditions needed to encounter the Yasohachi Bridge Curse, the trio manage to enter its domain. Motivated by Fushiguro's connection to the situation, everyone is aligned in wanting to dispatch the Curse quickly. Unfortunately, Mahito has been tinkering in the background and setting up another surprise for the sorcerers.
Mahito stole six of Sukuna's fingers and three special-grade cursed objects during the Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event. After feeding one of the items to an unfortunate human, a Curse is spawned inside its new host body and immediately sent to the exact location that Itadori, Fushiguro and Kugisaki are investigating.
Inside the domain, the trio quickly realizes that another Curse has entered the fray. With fiery determination and the goal of protecting Fushiguro's sister, the team split up to take down their various opponents.
