WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 10 of I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level, now streaming on Crunchyroll.
I've Been Killing Slimes' heroine Azusa Aizawa, a mighty witch of the highlands, isn't here to form a harem or stomp everyone with her level 99 powers. Instead, Azusa has found her true calling: helping other people and becoming their friend. Even ghosts such as Rosalie are welcome to join her circle, and in Episode 10, it's time for a street musician to join the club.
In the town of Flatta, Azusa and her pals spot a rather intimidating poster, one that reminds her of terrifying heavy metal bands back home on Earth. And sure enough, a young rabbit-woman calling herself Schifanoia is decked out in death metal garb, about to put on a show. But she isn't putting her heart into it.
Kuku The Musician Isn't Being True To Herself
An Almiraj, or rabbit-person, calling herself Schifanoia is blasting her music across the street for all to hear, but no one is banging their heads or throwing up devil horns. Instead, Schifanoia quickly loses the entire crowd, and only Azusa and her fellows are left to watch as she faints from exhaustion. The poor girl needs help, so Azusa brings her and her guitar back home, where she eats a fine meal and takes a bath before explaining herself.
"Schifanoia" is the stage name of Kuku, a rabbit girl who wants to make a name for herself and show her heart to the world through music. Flatorte isn't impressed though, pointing out that Kuku has too little talent for this, and her lyrics aren't authentic to her heart. However, Kuku is determined to succeed and follow her dream, so Azusa decides to have everyone write new lyrics to give the rabbit-girl some inspiration.
Sure enough, everyone gathers outside the next day to put on rehearsals, from Halkara making an ad jingle for her Nutri-Spirit drink to Falfa and Shalsha singing a charming kids' song to Rosalie's incredibly mopey song about being a lonely ghost. Kuku is deeply thankful for all the help and resolves to write a song based on her new friendships. Just in time, Beelzebub the fly demon arrives and invites Kuku to perform for a massive crowd of 20,000 at the demon realm capital (and this time, they better not upset the I've Been Killing Slimes world's demon king). It's make-or-break time for Kuku's fledgling music career.
Kuku's Biggest Show Begins
As Kuku's big concert arrives, she is nervous but determined to put on the show of a lifetime. She steps on stage, strums some new chords, and launches into a touching song about her gratitude for all her new friends and their support. The entire crowd is moved, and Kuku is in the zone right to the very end. At last, she is speaking for herself and delivering an authentic message, and it pays off enormously. Azusa and the others throw a little party for Kuku at the demon castle later, where Flatorte picks up the guitar and starts playing the unpopular heavy metal Kuku had been playing at Flatta's streets.
Flatorte explains that Kuku's original dream was to make it big as a death metal performer, and she shouldn't give up on it just to follow current music trends. Instead, she should follow both routes and be authentic to both her heart and her original heavy metal dreams. Flatorte seems to be flip-flopping on what exactly she expects from Kuku, but all the same, Kuku takes her message to heart and vows to become the wonderful musician she always meant to be. Music now brings her true joy, and so do all her new friendships. I've Been Killing Slimes provides exactly the launchpad Kuku needed to begin her artistic career in earnest.
