The final volume of the Horimiya manga will give fans an additional glimpse of Hori and Miyamura's life after graduation.
Anime News Network is reporting that a special one-shot chapter of the popular romantic comedy manga will be published in Square Enix's Monthly G Fantasy magazine on July 16, the same day that the final collected volume of the series will be released. The new epilogue will take place immediately after the graduation ceremony that previously marked the end of the series in both the manga and anime. Some fans of the series were disappointed that the original ending didn't fully explain what happened to every character at the end of the series, so there is a chance that this new chapter of the manga will bring the series to a close more definitively.
Horimiya is a shonen romance manga about Kyoko Hori, a smart and popular high school student, and Izumi Miyamura, a shy and withdrawn outsider who everyone at school assumes is a hardcore otaku. After Miyamura helps her little brother find his way home one day, Hori is shocked to discover that outside of school, Miyamura is actually rather stylish and good looking, and hides his true appearance at school in order to avoid getting in trouble over his many piercings and tattoos. The two eventually develop a friendship that buds into a romance as the two help each other overcome their individual issues.
The series was originally created and self-published online in 2007 under the title Hori-san to Miyamura-kun by an artist known as Hero. Under Hero's supervision, Daisuke Hagiwara adapted the original webcomic into a manga, which began serialization in Monthly G Fantasy magazine in 2011. This version of the manga was localized into English and released internationally by Yen Press. A single-season anime, also based on Hagiwara's adaptation, was produced by Wonder Egg Priority studio CloverWorks in early 2021. A live-action adaptation of the series is also currently airing on Japanese TV.
All 13 episodes of the Horimiya anime are available for streaming on Funimation.
