Funimation continues to expand its catalog of donghua (Chinese anime) as the streaming services announces that the English dub of the BL (Boys' Love) series Heaven Official's Blessing will premiere later this month.
Funimation will stream the first two episodes of the show's English Dub on Nov. 12. The company also revealed the voice actors who are involved in creating the show's English dub: Howard Wang (SK8 the Infinity) is voicing Xie Lian, James Cheek (Assassination Classroom, One Piece) plays Hua Cheng, Lucien Dodge (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable, The Seven Deadly Sins) is playing Fu Yao and Wendee Lee (Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Your Lie in April) voices Ling Wen. Other members of the cast include Phil Song (Scarlet Nexus), Ricco Fajardo (Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest, Plunderer) and Apphia Yu (My Hero Academia, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime).
On the production end, Jerry Jewell is serving as ADR director for the English dub and Clint Bickham is writing the scripts. Domonique French is the Lead ADR Engineer and Gino Palencia is the Mix Engineer.
Based on the novel by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, Heaven Official's Blessing tells the story of Xie Lian, the crown prince of an ancient kingdom who has managed to ascend to and be kicked out of heaven multiple times. The prince eventually meets a mysterious demon king, who rules over ghosts, terrifies the occupants of heaven and is fascinated by Xie Lian. The donghua adaptation by Haoliners Animation League and Bilibili debuted in October 2020 and ran for 11 episodes. A second season has been confirmed, but currently, there is no information about when it will be released.
Heaven Official's Blessing was the first donghua series Funimation added to its catalog, and several more are now available on the streaming service, including LX Animation Studio's science fiction action series The Defective, Haoliners Animation League's urban fantasy The Daily Life of the Immortal King, Shenying Animation's supernatural action drama Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire and Haoliners Animation League's photography-themed show Link Click.
Other shows that are have recently made their premieres on the streaming service include the Vampire Dies in No Time, Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut, PuraOre! Pride of Orange, Platinum End, Mieruko-chan, AMAIN Warrior at the Borderline and Ranking of Kings and Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside.
The English subtitled version of Heaven Official's Blessing is available to stream on Funimation and Netflix.
