Hawkeye star Vincent D'Onofrio is a big fan of his buddy Ethan Hawke's performance in Moon Knight.
D'Onofrio described Hawke's acting in the Disney+ series as "so good" in a recent tweet. He also praised Hawke's co-stars Oscar Isaac and May Calamawy, and expressed his appreciation for Moon Knight overall, saying he "can't wait" for the show's third episode. D'Onofrio and Hawke have been close friends for years and have collaborated on several films together, including Staten Island, Brooklyn's Finest, Sinister and The Kid.
The pals are now both part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, thanks to their respective roles in Hawkeye and Moon Knight. D'Onofrio technically first joined the MCU via the Daredevil series that originally aired on Netflix, however, the canonical status of the "Defenders Saga" is currently unclear. It wasn't until he reprised the role of Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin in 2021's Hawkeye series that D'Onofrio properly cemented his position within official MCU continuity.
D'Onofrio will next appear as Kingpin in Hawkeye spinoff Echo, if a recent leak is to be believed. This report claims that D'Onofrio's Daredevil co-star Charlie Cox will also return as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, reuniting the two characters for the first time since that series ended. There have also been rumors that Marvel Studios is currently developing a new Daredevil series for Disney+, however, neither the studio nor the streaming platform have made any announcements in this respect.
Unlike D'Onofrio, Hawke's entry into the MCU was much more straightforward. To date, his only appearance in the multimedia franchise is Moon Knight, in which he portrays Arthur Harrow -- a character loosely based on an obscure Marvel Comics villain. While Hawke's portrayal of Harrow has won over D'Onofrio, another of his new MCU colleagues is more critical of the performance. Specifically, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu criticized the scene in Moon Knight Episode 2, "Summon the Suit," where Harrow speaks Mandarin poorly.
This isn't the first time a Moon Knight cast member's accent has come under fire, either. Some fans objected to the faux British accent Oscar Isaac adopts to play Steven Grant, following the release of the show's trailer. Isaac defended this creative choice at the time, explaining, "[t]hat voice is about where Steven's from, where he's living now, and some of his believed heritage" before adding that the accent "is not an idea of what Brits actually sound like."
Moon Knight is currently streaming on Disney+.
