Classic mecha anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is receiving a sequel film in addition to a new game and a manga series!
These new works are part of GUNDAM SEED PROJECT ignited, a project celebrating the 20th anniversary of the original anime series.
While details on the sequel film are scarce, it is currently in production with Mitsuo Fukuda back as director. Similarly, little information is available for the new Mobile Suit Gundam SEED game.
The new manga will be released worldwide in July as a Mobile Suit Gundam SEED ECLIPSE side-story. Overseas fans will be able to access the series through Gundam.Info.
Set in CE (Cosmic Era) 72, two years between two great wars, the story is centered around the mobile suit pilots of an empty unit known as "ODR." Three characters have been revealed: 17-year-old pilot Tatsumi Hori, 19-year-old commander Miyabi Oto Kio, and 18-year-old pilot/coordinator Ken Noland Suse.
Atsushi Soga is drawing the manga with a story by SOW, character design by Kogado Studio, and mecha design by Junichi Akutsu of Astrays.
Also set to appear in the manga, the MVF-X08 Eclipse Gundam will be available for purchase as a Master Grade 1/100 model kit from August.
Launched in October 2002, the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED anime series follows the intensifying conflict between "Coordinators," genetically altered humans, and "Naturals," regular humans who inhabit Earth. In addition to a sequel anime titled Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, it went on to receive manga and novel adaptations, as well as a series of compilation films.
