Google’s “Hum To Search” Lets You Identify Songs

Google has unveiled a new update that lets you identify a song by humming it. Songs that get stuck in your head, but can’t quite figure out, will now be easier to find. The new feature is called “hum to search,” and it’s here to save us from the headache of not being able to name that tune, as hypebeast reports.

Users can hum, whistle or sing to the feature, prompted by a small microphone icon found in Google’s mobile app or the Google Search widget. Users can also ask Google Assistant “What’s this song?” and then start humming. Currently, the feature is supported in over 20 languages, and Google plans on adding more languages later on. “Hum to search” raises the bar for competing apps like Apple‘s Shazam, which have not developed a melody-detecting function as sophisticated as Google’s, so far.
