Grab the tissues again, Boys Love fans, because Given the Movie is headed to Crunchyroll in 2021. Along with the release announcement, the streaming service has also dropped the first official trailer for the film, which is described as a feature-length sequel to the popular anime series.
Adapted from Natsuki Kizu's manga of the same name, Given follows the musical and romantic highs and lows of an aspiring student rock band. Crunchyoll streamed the series as part of its summer anime slate in 2019, after which the show quickly became a breakout hit. The spinoff movie opened in Japan this August to strong ticket sales despite being available in only a limited number of theaters.
Crunchyroll's synopsis for Given the Movie can be found below.
High school student Ritsuka Uenoyama is shocked when he hears Mafuyu Sato’s singing voice. He and his other bandmates, Haruki Nakayama and Akihiko Kaji, then welcome him into their band as a vocalist. After Mafuyu joins, their first live performance is a huge success, and they make their official debut as the band “Given.” In the midst of all this, Ritsuka realizes that he has feelings for Mafuyu and they start seeing each other. Meanwhile, Haruki secretly has had feelings for Akihiko for years, but Akihiko was still in a relationship with his roommate, the violinist Ugetsu Murata. Haruki, Akihiko, and Ugetsu’s love clashes on the big screen and starts to move forward.
As of yet, there is no release date for the film's digital premiere but the anime brand encourages fans interested in streaming it to follow their regional Crunchyroll social pages for further information.
