New images have been unveiled from Fullmetal Alchemist's next pair of live-action films, Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter - The Avenger Scar and Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter - The Last Transmutation.
The series of pictures give fans an exclusive look at key characters from the anime who did not appear in the first Fullmetal Alchemist live-action movie, such as Seiyo Uchino as Van Hohenheim, the Elric brothers' mysterious father clad in his trademark glasses and long, golden hair, and Hiroshi Tachi as King Bradley, depicted in his blue military uniform as he draws his sword. Images were also released of Keisuke Watanabe as the 12th Crown Prince of Xing, Ling Yao, and Chiaki Kuriyama as Olivier Mira Armstrong, the fearsome officer who protects Amestris' northern border.

The release of these new images comes over four years after the first Fullmetal Alchemist live-action movie hit theaters in 2017. Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist manga series takes place in a world where alchemy is a discipline that people can master, allowing individuals to deconstruct and reconstruct matter at the molecular level, so long as they abide by the Law of Equivalent Exchange. There is one taboo in alchemy, however -- the art of human transmutation. Edward "Ed" Elric and his younger brother, Al, learn of the devastating consequences of the art when they try to revive their dead mother. Ed loses an arm and a leg and Al loses his entire body, his soul being attached to a suit of armor instead. Determined to make amends, Ed sets off on a journey alongside his brother to recover Al's body and track down the mystical Philosopher's Stone.
Being one of the best-selling manga series in history, Fullmetal Alchemist has enjoyed many adaptations since its serialization began in 2001. It has been adapted into two anime television series, Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, with the second adaptation recreating the manga more faithfully than the first.
A live-action film adaptation of the same name was also released on Nov. 19, 2017, which brought the first four volumes of the manga series to life. The movie features Ryosuke Hamada as Ed, Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell, the Elrics' fiery mechanic, and Dean Fujioka as the Flame Alchemist, Roy Mustang. Despite the mixed reception it received, it was announced in July 2017 that a sequel was in development. It was then revealed in March this year that the first film would actually receive two sequel movies, with Hamada, Honda and Fujioka reprising their roles.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter - The Avenger Scar and Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter - The Last Transmutation are scheduled to be released on May 20 and June 24, respectively.
