With the Super Bowl right around the corner, one of the largest waves of trailers for television, film and video games is coming with the big game, from promoting this summer's lineup of major movie blockbusters to the biggest television premieres and video game launches of the year. But even before the opening kickoff, there have been plenty of trailers to beat the rush and hype up audiences for this year's upcoming projects.
Here are all the biggest and best trailers, teasers and promos released in the week leading up to Super Bowl LVI, from new movies and shows coming to Netflix and Disney+ to midseason returns on HBO Max. All the promos and trailers airing during the Super Bowl broadcast will be included in a separate article following the championship game's conclusion.
The Adam Project
After working together on last year's Free Guy, Ryan Reynolds and filmmaker Shawn Levy are reuniting for the new Netflix original movie The Adam Project. The new film has a boy named Adam struggling with the loss of his father only to be visited by his adult self from the future, portrayed by Reynolds, who reveals that time travel is real as he embarks on a mission to save his timeline.
Directed by Shawn Levy, The Adam Project premieres March 11 on Netflix.
Bastard!!
Kazushi Hagiwara's bestselling fantasy manga series, Bastard!!, is being adapted into a new 24-episode anime series this year. Blending heavy metal and dark fantasy sensibilities, Bastard!! follows a powerful wizard trapped in the body of a young boy after he attempted to conquer the world. When a new threat arises, the boy is recruited to save the day as he seeks his own redemption.
Directed by Takaharu Ozaki, Bastard!! premieres in 2022 on Netflix.
Firestarter
Stephen King's classic 1980 novel Firestarter is being adapted into a feature film, following a young couple trying to help their daughter control her pyrokinetic powers. These efforts are complicated further by a clandestine federal agency pursuing the family to use the girl's powers for their own twisted ends. This is the second adaptation of King's novel, following a 1984 cinematic adaptation, with the new film looking to up the fiery ante.
Directed by Keith Thomas, Firestarter opens in theaters on May 13 and will be simultaneously available to stream on Peacock.
Jurassic World Dominion
The dinosaur-fueled saga that began with Jurassic World comes to an end in Jurassic World Dominion, with dinosaurs now living freely across the Earth. With humanity and other contemporary species under threat of being completely supplanted by their prehistoric counterparts, the classic heroes from Jurassic Park must team up with the new generation if they hope to find a way to survive in this brave new world.
Directed and co-written by Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic World Dominion opens in theaters on June 10.
Lightyear
The iconic Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear is ready to stand center stage in the spinoff Pixar film Lightyear. Depicting the adventures of the space ranger that the action figure is based on, the latest trailer for Lightyear shows Buzz venturing deep into outer space with a feline companion where he confronts a leering nemesis that bears a striking resemblance to his enemy, Emperor Zurg.
Directed by Angus MacLane, Lightyear opens in theaters on June 17.
Magic: The Gathering
The latest expansion set for Magic: The Gathering is here, with the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty showcasing a world blending East Asian-inspired tradition and futuristic technology unlike anything Magic has seen before as a new realm comes to the enormously popular tabletop game. Compared to much of Magic's medieval fantasy, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty takes the franchise in a brave, neon-soaked direction.
The Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty expansion is available now on Magic: The Gathering Arena, with the physical tabletop expansion available on Feb. 18.
Reno 911!
After finding a new home on The Roku Channel, the long-running comedy series Reno 911! returns for its eighth season this month, pitting the Reno Police Department in a fresh set of hijinks. Facing department defunding, including the loss of their military-grade weaponry, the goofy Reno cops find themselves confronting surprisingly well-armed children as they keep their Nevada city safe.
Created by Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney-Silver, Reno 911! Season 8 premieres Feb. 25 on The Roku Channel.
The Rising of the Shield Hero
The acclaimed anime adaptation of Aneko Yusagi's bestselling light novel series The Rising of the Shield Hero returns for its second season this spring, with a new trailer teasing what audiences can expect when the fantasy story resumes. Among the most intriguing details is the introduction of new character Ost Horai, who implores the heroes to kill her upon meeting them, setting her up for a major role in Season 2.
Directed by Masato Jinbo, The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 premieres this April and will be available to stream on Crunchyroll.
Snowdrop
A pivotal moment in South Korean history is explored in the acclaimed Korean drama series Snowdrop, now available to stream on Disney+. It's set during the June 1987 Democracy Movement that forced the authoritarian South Korean government to hold free elections and led to the democratic South Korean republic that exists today. Amidst all the political turmoil, a romance strikes up between a young woman and a North Korean man with a dark past.
Directed by Jo Hyun-tak, Snowdrop is available to stream on Disney+.
The Wolf Among Us 2
It's been eight years since The Wolf Among Us, adapting the acclaimed DC comics book series Fables, completed its five-episode run, and a sequel is set to release next year. Following the adventures of Bigby Wolf, the fabled Big Bad Wolf turned private investigator, The Wolf Among Us 2 brings back the storybook neo-noir as Bigby faces a new mystery in the upcoming video game.
Developed by Telltale Games and AdHoc Studio and published by Telltale and Athlon Games, The Wolf Among Us 2 will be released in 2023 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
Young Justice
After beginning its midseason break this past December, Young Justice: Phantoms is returning to complete the animated series' fourth season this spring, with an action-packed trailer heralding its return. Teasing the resurgence of Darkseid, this animated iteration of the DC Universe descends into chaos and conflict, with its teenage core cast as the last line of defense from total annihilation.
Developed for television by Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman, Young Justice: Phantoms returns this spring on HBO Max.
