As September 2021 hits its halfway mark, the summer television and blockbuster movie season is gradually winding down while the launch of the 2021-2022 regular television season looms on the horizon. With the return of the Arrowverse and a fresh wave of anime leading the charge, there are plenty of trailers for everything from Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video to Netflix and HBO Max set to unfold as Autumn 2021 rapidly nears.
Here are all the biggest trailers, teasers and promos released this past week for television, film and video games.
Batwoman
Batwoman is back in action in the latest teaser trailer for the Arrowverse series, teasing a familiar foe coming to Gotham City for the show's third season. As Luke Fox continues to settle into his own superhero role as Batwing and the villainous Alice is placed behind bars, Ryan Wilder continues to investigate a plant-based development revealed in the Season 2 finale, setting up the arrival of Poison Ivy.

Bright: Samurai Soul
The 2017 Netflix original movie Bright is getting an anime spinoff film set in the Land of the Rising Sun with Bright: Samurai Soul. Starring Simu Liu as a ronin named Izno, the lone wolf warrior teams up with an orc named Raiden to bring an elf and her powerful wand to the Kingdom of Northern Elves. They journey across feudal Japan in a mission of redemption while battling a mysterious organization known as the Inferni.
Directed by Kyōhei Ishiguro, Bright: Samurai Soul premieres Oct. 12 on Netflix.
Colin in Black & White
Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay and former professional football player and social activist Colin Kaepernick are teaming up with Netflix for the new original miniseries Colin in Black & White. Providing a biography of the teenage years of Kaepernick, the miniseries premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival ahead of its release on Netflix this October, with Kaepernick himself introducing the dramatic retelling of his adolescence.
Created by Ava DuVernay and Colin Kaepernick, Colin in Black & White premieres Oct. 29 on Netflix.
Digimon Adventure
The acclaimed reboot of the original Digimon Adventure is nearing its series finale on Sept. 26, with a new trailer teasing the epic conclusion to Taichi Yagami's journey with the franchise's digital monsters. With the fate of the Digi-destined and the Digital World hanging in the balance, the series is set to wrap with an explosive showdown between Omnimon and Negamon in all their Ultimate Evolution glory.
Directed by Masato Mitsuka, Digimon Adventure is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
Digimon Ghost Game
Even though the rebooted Digimon Adventure is coming to an end, the future of the Digimon franchise remains bright, with the new anime series Digmon Ghost Game premiering the following week in Japan. Starring new protagonist Hiro Amanokawa, the first teaser for the upcoming series has the world plagued by Hologram Ghosts, with Hiro using his Digidevice to reveal Digimon hiding in plain sight and team up with them to confront a sinister villain.
Directed by Kimitoshi Chioka and Masato Mitsuka, Digimon Ghost Game premieres on Oct. 3 in Japan.
Hawkeye
Clint Barton is making his long-awaited return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time starring in the upcoming Disney+ miniseries Hawkeye. As Clint's lethal past as the vigilante Ronin catches up with him, he learns that a new avenging archer is protecting the streets of New York City, leading to an impromptu team-up as the two heroes confront a crime syndicate on the loose in Manhattan just in time for Christmas.
Developed for television by Jonathan Igla, Hawkeye premieres Nov. 24 on Disney+.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
The fan-favorite slasher movie I Know What You Did Last Summer, itself an adaptation of the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan, is getting a television series on Amazon Prime Video next month. The first teaser trailer for the upcoming series shows a debauched graduation party gone horribly wrong, resulting in a lethal car accident on a dark stretch of road. And as a group of teenagers thinks they've covered up a horrific crime, they find themselves murderously stalked by someone who knows their secret.
I Know What You Did Last Summer premieres Oct. 15 on Amazon Prime Video.
Komi Can't Communicate
The slice-of-life anime series Komi Can't Communicate, adapting the manga series of the same name by Tomohito Oda, is coming to Netflix next month, with a new trailer teasing the romantic comedy. The unassuming high schooler Hitohito Tadano finds himself helping coach his beautiful classmate Shouko Komi in her communication skills as the lonely girl seeks to make some genuine friends at school.
Directed by Kazuki Kawagoe and Ayumu Watanabe, Komi Can't Communicate premieres Oct. 21 on Netflix.
Locke & Key
Locke & Key is coming back for its second season just in time for Halloween and the Netflix original series is poised to go even bigger and more epic than ever before. Based on the comic book series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, the teaser trailer shows a monstrous spider spinning webs throughout the halls of Keyhouse. Additionally, the villainous Dodge is revealed to have survived the events of Season 1 as the demonic entity continues to menace the Locke children.
Developed for television Carlton Cuse, Meredith Averill and Aron Eli Coleite, Locke & Key Season 2 premieres Oct. 22 on Netflix.
Magic: The Gathering
The latest expansion to Magic: The Gathering is available now for Magic: The Gathering Arena, with a physical release set for the end of the month. Titled Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, the expansion doubles down on the horror side of the dark fantasy tabletop game, with a cinematic trailer showcasing werewolves prowling the countryside for fresh prey, with other things that go bump in the night lurking in the shadows.
The Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion to Magic: The Gathering is available now on Magic: The Gathering Arena, with the physical tabletop version released on Sept. 24.
Nightmare Alley
It's been four years since acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro helmed the Academy Award-winning The Shape of Water and he's back with an all-star cast this December in the upcoming movie Nightmare Alley. Adapting the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham, the film follows a mind-reading carny that squares off against a psychiatrist out to prove him as a fraud in a deconstruction of the noir genre.
Directed, co-written and produced by Guillermo del Toro, Nightmare Alley opens in theaters on Dec. 17.
Stargirl
While Stargirl Season 1 may have ended with the death of the villainous Brainwave, the supervillain is poised to return from the grave and menace Wildcat once again. As Yolanda Montez continues to grapple with killing Brainwave in Season 1, a vision of the telepathic villain resurfaces. It could've been summoned by Season 2's main antagonist Eclipso, to taunt Wildcat from beyond as Yolanda confronts her inner guilt personified.

Star Wars: Hunters
The online multiplayer-based game Star Wars: Hunters has released a new cinematic trailer teasing everyone from Dark Jedi Knights to Mandalorians and Wookiees joining the fray in that galaxy far, far away. In addition to being released for mobile devices, Star Wars: Hunters will also be available to play for Nintendo Switch, without players needing to have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
Developed by Zynga and NaturalMotion and published by Zynga, Star Wars: Hunters will be released for the Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android devices in 2022.
Supergirl
As Supergirl enters its final stretch of episodes before the Arrowverse series closes out for good, John Diggle makes his return in time to help mentor Kelly Olsen on her own superhero career. Frustrated by the persecution and peril that the people of National City face, Kelly takes on the mantle of Guardian, created by her brother Jimmy, to stand up for what's right and join the rest of Team Supergirl on the field.
Developed for television by Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg, Supergirl airs new episodes on Tuesdays on The CW.
Sword Art Online Progressive
The popular anime franchise Sword Art Online is getting a new anime film next month with Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night. Based on the light novel series Sword Art Online: Progressive by Reki Kawahara, the anime film adapts the first volume in the series as Asuna moves to defend the virtual world of Sword Art Online after discovering she and other humans players are trapped in the online world and will die in real-life if they perish in the game.
Directed by Ayako Kono, Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night premieres in Japan on Oct. 30.
Ten Year Old Tom
HBO Max's next original animated series takes a decidedly more mature tone, despite its protagonist and many of its main characters still being in elementary school, in Ten Year Old Tom, created by and starring Steve Dildarian. After previously creating the fan-favorite HBO animated series The Life & Times of Tim, Dildarian presents the world through the eyes of his adolescent protagonist while not pulling his punches on the subject matter.
Created by Steve Dildarian, Ten Year Old Tom premieres Sept. 30 on HBO Max.
Tsurune
The sports anime series Tsurune, based on the light novel series by Kotoko Ayano and Chinatsu Morimoto, is getting an anime film adaptation next year after the conclusion of the main anime series two years ago. Focused on the intensely competitive world of high school archery, the film follows protagonist Minato Narumiya as he overcomes his anxiety and troubled past to embrace his gift for the sport.
Directed by Takuya Yamamura, Tsurune returns for an anime film in 2022. The anime series is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
What If...?
As What If... ? Season 1 reaches its final stretch of episodes, the alternate universe heroes are poised to form their own multiversal Avengers team to take on the Evil Doctor Strange, with some connections to Marvel Zombies. And with the fate of the entire Marvel Cinematic Multiverse hanging in the balance, the heroes of these alternate worlds will have to learn to work together if they hope to save all of reality.

The World's Finest Assassin
Adapting Rui Tsukiyo and Reia's light novel series of the same name, The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat has released a trailer for its upcoming anime adaptation. After an elderly assassin is killed on a sabotaged plane, he is revived by a goddess in a fantasy world to assassinate a hero after as he is poised to lead his kingdom into destruction.
Directed by Masafumi Tamura, The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat premieres Oct. 6 in Japan, with a simulcast on Crunchyroll.
