Even at the height of the holiday season, plenty of studios and production companies have unveiled a fresh wave of trailers to help promote new films, television series, comics, anime and video games slated to launch in the new year. Among those properties that received trailers or teasers this week were Fortnite, Cobra Kai and Pennyworth, though they were far from the only ones to release new footage.
Here are all the biggest and best trailers, teasers and promos from the final full week of 2020.
Brothers by Blood
Joel Kinnaman and Ryan Phillippe are teaming up for the upcoming crime drama Brothers by Blood, with Kinnaman portraying a violent crime lord named Michael heading a familial crime syndicate. As Michael plots to expand his criminal empire and seek revenge against a rival Italian group in Philadelphia, he and his reluctant cousin descend in a cycle of violence in a gritty first trailer.
Written and directed by Jérémie Guez, Brothers by Blood stars Joel Kinnaman, Maika Monroe, Matthias Schoenaerts and Ryan Phillippe. It arrives in select theaters, video-on-demand and digital on Jan. 22.
Cobra Kai
Netflix is giving Cobra Kai fans an early reason to celebrate the new year by moving up the premiere date for Season 3 by a full week. A promo announcing the change in release date has Johnny Lawrence annoyed at the wait for the Season 3 premiere and changing the date to New Year's Day before urging his students to "Send it to the internet!"
Cobra Kai stars William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Decenzo, Peyton List and Martin Kove. Season 3 arrives on Netflix Jan. 8.
Coming 2 America
Over 30 years after the original film, Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall and James Earl Jones reprise their regal roles in Coming 2 America. A sequel to 1988's Coming to America, the comedy has Murphy's Prince Akeem Joffer discover he has a male heir living in New York City and returns to the United States with his personal aide, Semmi, to locate him and take him back to the African nation of Zamunda.
Directed by Craig Brewer, Coming 2 America stars Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Shari Headley, Wesley Snipes, James Earl Jones, John Amos, Teyana Taylor, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Paul Bates, Nomzamo Mbatha and Bella Murphy. The film arrives on Amazon Prime Video March 5.
Control
The acclaimed action-science fiction video game Control is coming to next-gen consoles next year, with a gameplay teaser trailer showing the enhanced graphics and higher frame rate in the title's ultimate edition. Slated for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Control follows a woman investigating her brother's mysterious disappearance, using sci-fi weaponry and her supernatural abilities to battle enemies.
Developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by 505 Games, Control: Ultimate Edition will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X digitally on Feb. 2 and physically on March 2.
Creepshow
With the Creepshow holiday special available to stream on Shudder, the premium horror streaming service has shared a spoiler-filled trailer for its yuletide episode, as an army of werewolf-hunting Santa Clauses descend on a support group for animalistic shapeshifters. In the trailer, the group proves that it's stronger together, joining forces to defend themselves from a Kris Kringle with knife hands.
Written and directed by Greg Nicotero, A Creepshow Holiday Special stars Anna Camp and Adam Pally. The special episode is available to stream now on Shudder.
Dragon Ball FighterZ
The popular fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ has confirmed which two characters will round out its third season of DLC. The footage shows Dragon Ball GT villain Super Baby 2 in action and teases Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, the season's final playable character, joining the fray.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is developed by Arc System Works and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Super Baby 2 will be added to the game as a DLC character Jan. 15, with Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta to be released at a later date.
Earwig and the Witch
Studio Ghibli's next feature film, Earwig and the Witch, is the beloved Japanese animation studio's first full CG animated film. The upcoming movie's latest trailer introduces its English-dub voice cast and provides a sneak peek at the film's theme song by Kacey Musgraves, who also voices the eponymous orphan's mother. The film will receive its North American distribution sometime in early 2021, with Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki's son Goro taking the reins on the project.
Directed by Goro Miyazaki, Earwig and the Witch will premiere on Dec. 30 in Japan, with a North American release planned for early 2021.
Fortnite
The number of Marvel characters guest starring in Fortnite gets even bigger with the popular online video game's latest update. A cinematic teaser for the update shows the heroes approaching Wakanda, with Captain America and various other Marvel characters facing Black Panther and giving him the nation's trademark salute. The update is available now.
Developed by Epic Games, Fortnite is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Monster Hunter
Adapting Capcom's enormously popular video game franchise, filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson's Monster Hunter is now in theaters worldwide. The latest trailer for the movie provides a quick roll call of the monsters appearing in the film, as protagonist Captain Artemis learns how to take each of them down while arming herself with weaponry straight from the games.
Written, directed and produced by Paul W.S. Anderson, Monster Hunter stars Milla Jovovich, Ron Perlman, TI, Tony Jaa, Meagan Good and Diego Boneta. The film is in theaters now.
Onyx Equinox
After releasing new episodes of its original anime series Onyx Equinox on a weekly basis for the first half of the season, Crunchyroll announced it will release the remaining seven episodes of the season at once following Christmas as a surprise present. Produced by Crunchyroll Studios, the series follows an Aztec boy named Izel traveling across ancient Mesoamerica to close the five gates to the underworld.
Created by Sofia Alexander, all twelve episodes of Onyx Equinox are available to stream on Crunchyroll.
Pennyworth
After a short hiatus, Pennyworth returns for the second half of Season 2 this March, with London in flames as its '60s vision of the United Kingdom descends into a civil war. A teaser trailer for the prequel series' return showcases its ensemble cast gripped in explosive action while the villainous Lord Harwood begins to face the emotional toll of plunging the country into chaos.
Developed by former Gotham collaborators Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, Pennyworth stars Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth, Ben Aldridge as Thomas Wayne, Jason Flemyng as Lord Harwood, Paloma Faith as Bet Sykes, Ryan Fletcher as Dave Boy, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett as Bazza, Jessica Ellerby as the Queen and Simon Manyonda as Lucius Fox. Season 2B premieres March 7 on EPIX.

Acclaimed comic book creators Jeff Lemire and Jock are teaming up for a new title published through Comixology Originals: Snow Angels. Launching this February, a motion comic trailer showcases a wintry world rocked by blood conflict as two young girls named Milliken and Mae decide to leave their polar home and explore the frozen expanse outside before encountering the horrors of the wild.
Written by Jeff Lemire and illustrated by Jock, Snow Angels #1 goes on sale Feb. 16 on Comixology.
