With July 2021 now underway, the summer is in full swing as reopened movie theaters usher in the annual wave of blockbuster films and regular television seasons reach their epic finales. And with everything from summer scares on Hulu to the next stage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+, the latest wave of trailers is pulling out all the stops to keep audiences entertained while they look for waves to beat the heat.
Here are all the biggest and best trailers, teasers and promos released the first full week of July 2021.
American Horror Stories
To help tide over the wait for next month's American Horror Story Season 10, the anthology series American Horror Stories premieres this July. The latest trailer for the series offers retreads of classic storylines from the main series, along with all-new terrifying premises as a rotating cast experiences all kinds of supernatural evil firsthand.
Created by Ryan Murphy, American Horror Stories stars Dyllón Burnside, Nico Greetham, Kevin McHale, Charles Melton, Matt Bomer, Taissa Farmiga, Evan Peters, Sierra McCormick, Kaia Gerber and Paris Jackson, among others. The series premieres July 15 on Hulu.
Chapelwaite
The latest Stephen King adaptation is coming to Epix next month, with Chapelwaite adapting King's short story "Jerusalem's Lot." Telling the tale of widower Captain Charles Boone taking his children back to his ancestral hometown of Preacher's Corners, Maine, the 19th century sea captain learns that there are dark secrets from his family history clawing at the walls of his home that he must confront head-on.
Chapelwaite stars Adrien Brody as Captain Charles Boone and Emily Hampshire as Rebecca Morgan. The series premieres on Epix on Aug. 22 at 10 p.m. EST.
Deathloop
The next big PlayStation 5 video game Deathloop is coming this September and Arkane Studios game director Dinga Bakaba hosts a deep-dive gameplay trailer for the upcoming first-person shooter. The game has an assassin named Colt assigned to kill several targets on a remote island, only to find he's being pursued by a rival contract killer himself. Should Colt die, time will reset, forcing him to start at the beginning.
Developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks, Deathloop will be available on PlayStation 5 and Windows on Sept. 14.
Encanto
Disney's latest animated feature film Encanto dives into a magical vision of Colombia following the Madrigal family, whose enchanted house gives them a wide range of fantastical abilities. With Mirabel as the only one in the family apparently without powers gifted to her, the young girl is poised to prove what exactly makes her special with some magic of her own.
Directed by Jared Bush, Byron Howard and Charise Castro Smith, Encanto stars Stephanie Beatriz, María Cecilia Botero, Wilmer Valderrama, Adassa, Diane Guerrero, Mauro Castillo, Angie Cepeda, Jessica Darrow, Rhenzy Feliz and Carolina Gaitan. The film arrives in theaters Nov. 24.
The Flash
As The Flash Season 7 races towards its epic conclusion, it's a full-on Flash Family reunion rallying together to defend Central City from an onslaught of warring Godspeeds. After reuniting with his daughter Nora and discovering he has a speedster superhero son in Bart Allen, Barry and the rest of Team Flash are joined by Jay Garrick for the ultimate showdown against the army of futuristic villains.
The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Panabaker, Kayla Compton and Brandon McKnight. New episodes air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
Isekai Quartet
The crossover anime franchise Isekai Quartet is returning with a brand-new film next year, as heralded by a teaser trailer. Titled Gekijōban Isekai Quartet ~ Another World~, the upcoming film is set to bring back the animation teams from the anime series. Running for two seasons, Isekai Quartet brought together the worlds of Re:ZERO, Overlord and more for comedic hijinks, with its second season concluding in 2020.
Written and directed by Minoru Ashina, Gekijōban Isekai Quartet ~ Another World~ premieres in 2022.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
The latest gameplay trailer for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum presents a full tour of Middle-Earth from the perspective of the lowly figure, completely obsessed with recovering the One Ring of Power. Hosted by game producer Harold Riegler, the trailer showcases a Middle-Earth more inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's novels than the live-action films by Peter Jackson, including an appearance by Gandalf the Grey.
Developed and published by Daedelic Entertainment and NACON, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2022.
Macross Delta: Zettai Live!!!!!!
The popular anime franchise Macross is getting a new movie this autumn with Macross Delta: Zettai Live!!!!!!. Rather than being another reimagining of the long-running franchise, Zettai Live will continue the story from the anime series Macross Delta as the Delta Flight mercenary group defends a pop group whose music stands to save the world from the corrosive Var Syndrome.
Macross Delta: Zettai Live!!!!!! will premiere in Japan in Fall 2021.
Sonic Colors: Ultimate
The latest gameplay trailer for Sonic Colors: Ultimate, Sega's HD remaster for 2010's acclaimed title Sonic Colors, highlights the differences between the original game and the upcoming re-release. With everything from an enhanced technical presentation, taking full advantage of modern consoles, to additional gameplay modes and features from past Sonic the Hedgehog games, Sonic Colors is poised for a full-on celebration of Sonic's legacy.
Developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega, Sonic Colors: Ultimate arrives on Sept. 7 for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Sweet Girl
Jason Momoa is ready to go on a rampage filled with righteous fury in next month's Netflix original movie Sweet Girl. After his wife succumbs to an illness and with his daughter in dire need of life-saving medication no longer on the market, Momoa's protagonist Ray Cooper sets out to find those responsible for the tragedy while ensuring his daughter is safe.
Directed by Brian Andrew Mendoza, Sweet Girl stars Jason Momoa, Isabela Merced, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Raza Jaffrey, Adria Arjona, Justin Bartha, Lex Scott Davis, Michael Raymond-James, Dominic Fumusa, Brian Howe, Nelson Franklin, Reggie Lee and Marisa Tomei. The film arrives on Netflix Aug. 20.
Transformers: War for Cybertron - Kingdom
Netflix's acclaimed Transformers: War for Cybertron trilogy introduces its iteration of the popular Beast Wars characters as it unveils a trailer for its third installment, Kingdom. With the Decepticons teaming up with the Predicons for the AllSpark, it's up to the Autobots and Maximals to stop them, as the epic conflict crescendoes to a showdown between the warring factions for the fate of two worlds.
Developed by Rooster Teeth Studios, Transformers: War for Cybertron - Kingdom features the voice talents of Jake Foushee, Jason Marnocha, Linsay Rousseau, Joe Zieja, Frank Todaro, Rafael Goldstein, Keith Silverstein, Todd Haberkorn, Edward Bosco, Bill Rogers, Sophia Isabella, Brook Chalmers, Shawn Hawkins, Kaiser Johnson, Miles Luna and Mark Whitten. The series arrives on Netflix July 29.
What If...?
Marvel Studios' ambitious original animated series What If...? has dropped a new trailer teasing variations on the familiar moments and characters from the MCU. Boasting an all-star cast, many of whom are reprising their iconic MCU roles, the trailer shows heroes and villains taking on widely divergent paths throughout the Marvel Multiverse leading to worlds of infinite possibilities.
Created by A.C. Bradley and directed by Bryan Andrews, What If...? stars Jeffrey Wright, Samuel L. Jackson, Hayley Atwell, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Hiddleston, Michael Rooker, Chris Hemsworth, Dominic Cooper, Jeremy Renner and more. The series premieres August 11 on Disney+.
