Fire Force revealed the release date of the final chapter of its manga.
Shared by Mantan Web, it was announced in Kodansha's Weekly Shounen Magazine that, after 302 chapters of action-packed storytelling, the Fire Force manga will conclude in two chapters, with the final installment to be released in the magazine's 13th issue on Feb. 22. This comes as no surprise as the final arc of Fire Force began in October 2021 and the manga's creator, Atsushi Ohkubo announced in January that he had submitted the last chapter of Fire Force to his editors. In May 2020, Ohkubo also revealed in the author's commentary of the manga's 23rd issue that he intends for Fire Force to be his last manga series.
Fire Force has enjoyed great popularity since its serialization began in September 2015, with over 16 million copies of its manga in circulation as of June 2021. Set in a world where humanity is plagued by a strange phenomenon that transforms ordinary people into flaming, dangerous entities called Infernals, Fire Force tells the tale of young pyrokinetic Shinra Kusakabe who has the power to ignite his feet at will. Wanting to protect others from the ever-present threat of the Infernals, Shinra joins an organization called the Special Fire Force which was established to fight the fiery creatures and to try to uncover their cause.
Shinra's journey to becoming a hero of the people is not as smooth sailing as he expected it to be, however, as feuding brigades within the Special Fire Force left the organization fractured and unequipped to deal with the increasing abnormal Infernal sightings across Tokyo. To top this all off, Shinra must also confront the mystery behind the strange fire that killed his family 12 years ago when a shadowy group claims to know what caused it.
An anime adaptation produced by studio David Production and directed by Yuki Yase (Monogatari) was announced in November 2018 and ran for 24 episodes between July 6 to Dec. 28, 2019. A 24-episode second season directed by Tatsuma Minamikawa (Fairy Tail Movie 2: Dragon Cry) aired from July 4 to Dec. 12, 2020. Both seasons feature the talent of popular voice actors such as Gakuto Kajiwara (Komi Can't Communicate) as Shinra Kusakabe, Kazuya Nakai (One Piece) as Akitaru Oubi, Mao Ichimichi (Platinum End) as Iris, Mamoru Miyano (Death Note) as Benimaru Shinmon and Kenjiro Tsuda (The Way of the House Husband) as Joker.
The first and second seasons of the Fire Force anime are available to stream on Funimation, Hulu and Crunchyroll. The official English release of the manga is distributed in North America by Kodansha USA.
