Digimon: Last Evolution Kizuna is set to be the final adventure for the original group of DigiDestined, giving them one final chance to work together and help save the day. First introduced over 20 years ago, the new film sees the DigiDestined threatened by a more personal threat than they've ever faced before.
In a CBR-exclusive clip, Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna teases what kind of threat is targeting the DigiDestined all around the world, and what could happen to them if they fail to figure out the mystery of who's behind the attacks.
The clip reveals that a number of people all around the globe have been collapsing and going comatose. The only connection between them is that each one a DigiDestined -- one of the humans chosen to have a Digimon partner as they grow up. By the time Tai, Matt and the rest of the DigiDestined being affected by this, over three hundred people across the globe. Only complicating matters is that once a DigiDestined is targeted and put into a coma, their Digimon partner goes missing as well.

This threat puts the entire world in danger, as the Digimon have proven to be consistently protective of any attacks that have been carried out from the Digital World. On top of that, Digimon has become a common thing in the world following the events of Digimon Adventure 02, which makes the global streak of attacks all the more problematic. It's possible the threat that's bringing down DigiDestined could even spread to other more established characters, like the core team or the second generation, like Davis. Considering that this is the last hurrah for this version of the Digimon universe before the currently airing reboot of the franchise, it makes sense to raise the stakes as high as possible and put every possible DigiDestined into harm's way.
The disappearance of the Digimon might also be a complicating factor in whatever force is targeting the DigiDestined. The film will somewhat focus on the Digidestined finding out that as they grow up, the bond between them and their Digimon partners become weaker the older they become, with fighting only exasperating the situation and speeding up the separation. Other previously released trailers have suggested that a villainous and mysterious Digimon known as Eosmon is responsible for the plight of the DigiDestined, giving the heroes one last enemy to confront. But doing so may risk breaking the bond between the DigiDestined and their Digimon, forcing them to say goodbye to their friends.
This could even be seen as a way to close the book on that version of the Digital World, essentially rebooting it with an entire other reality and timeline. This could give the heroes one final battle so they can go down swinging, even if the reboot series could mean the DigiDestined are doomed to fail in any attempt to keep their friends with them. It's likely any victory for the DigiDestined will be bittersweet and come at the cost of the bonds that they've had for years. No matter how things play out, at least the DigiDestined will get the chance to save the world one more time before everything is over.
