Eizouken Studio Reveals Trailer for New Anime Yurei Deco

Science SARU, the animation studio behind 2018's Devilman Crybaby, 2020's Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! and 2021's The Heiki Story, is releasing a brand new original anime series later this year.

The first trailer for Yurei Deco, which is now available on Bandai Namco's official YouTube channel, gives viewers a glimpse of the show's colorful characters and quirky world. While very little is currently known about the upcoming anime, the trailer showcases a digital, cyberspace aesthetic and confirms a premiere window of April 2022.

Tomohisa Shimoyama (Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos) is directing Yurei Deco and Dai Sato (Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine) is in charge of the script. The members of Clammbon -- a Japanese band characterized by its eclectic mix of jazz, J-pop and electronica -- are composing the anime's music. None of the show's voice actors are confirmed as of writing.

Science SARU was established in February 2013 by Eunyoung Choi and Masaaki Yuasa, with its very first official release being the "Food Chain" episode of Pendleton Ward's animated fantasy series Adventure TimePing Pong The Animation, the first anime series by the studio, premiered in 2014. It was directed and written by Yuasa and has been licensed for North American distribution by Funimation.

The studio has been recognized by several prominent awards institutions in the anime industry. In 2021, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! was nominated for a total of 10 categories at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, going on to win Director of the Year and Best Animation. The Heike Story was nominated for three categories at the Anime Trending Awards in 2022.

Yurei Deco isn't the only upcoming anime title from Science SARU; the animation studio is also adapting the academic novel Tatami Time Machine Blues, which is a sequel to The Tatami Galaxy by Tomihiko Morimi. The adaptation was announced in August 2021 and will exclusively premiere on Disney+ in Japan sometime this year. Currently, it is unknown if or when the anime will receive a North American or international release.

Shingo Natsume (One-Punch Man) is directing Tatami Time Machine Blues with Makoto Ueda (Penguin Highway) writing the script and Yūsuke Nakamura (Night is Short, Walk on Girl) designing the characters. The voice casts include multiple popular and experienced voice actors like Yūsuke Nakamura (Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds), Hiroyuki Yoshino (Mobile Suit Gundam 00), Junichi Suwabe (The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window), Kazuya Nakai (Boruto: Naruto Next Generations) and Maaya Sakamoto (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time).
