Goku and the Z Fighters of Akira Toriyama's widely loved Dragon Ball franchise have dedicated their entire lives toward the training of their minds and bodies in pursuit of high levels of martial arts mastery. While that single-minded drive is admirable, it also doesn't pay the bills, with many of the warriors taking on civilian jobs to help make ends meet.
Though Vegeta was able to marry Bulma, the richest tech entrepreneur in the world, other characters have turned to career aspirations to keep the lights on, from Krillin becoming a police officer to Tien and Chiaotzu running their own martial arts dojo. And with Gohan living a relatively lavish lifestyle, the big question remains: what exactly does Goku's eldest son do to support his young family?
Ever since he could walk and talk, Gohan was pushed by his mother Chi Chi to devote his attention to his studies. This often interfered with Gohan's own martial arts training, with Chi Chi strictly mandating that the boy be kept inside to focus on his schoolwork -- even in the face of some of the universe's greatest threats. Her approach appeared to have paid off by the end of Dragon Ball Z, with the epilogue after Majin Buu's defeat revealing that Gohan was indeed one of the foremost scholars on the planet, living comfortably in relative opulence with his wife Videl and their daughter Pan.
This, of course, begs the question as to what Gohan actually does with his career in academia, a field not particularly renowned for its high salaries in any universe. Throughout Dragon Ball Super, Gohan is seen speaking at various academic conferences, though his field of expertise is never quite revealed. Although Gohan is respected within the academic community, he doesn't appear to hold a steady job within it. He's offered a position as a prestigious professor's assistant which he ultimately turns down since it would take too much time away from his family. The biggest-paying job Gohan is seen taking in Super sees him become a stuntman for a movie adaptation of his superhero persona, the Great Saiyaman, where Gohan saves the production from an actual invading alien.
While the occasional academic conference may not seem like enough for Gohan to support his family, Videl is quietly the daughter of one of the richest people on earth, Mister Hercule Satan. After taking credit for defeating Cell and other threats facing humanity, endorsements and sponsorships catapulted Hercule's wealth, with the martial arts champion able to pay Android 18 millions out of his own pocket in hush money to keep his reputation going. It is likely that Hercule supplements Gohan and Videl's income as a tacit way of looking out for both of them and his granddaughter Pan.
Goku has struggled to keep his own civilian jobs, seen at the start of Dragon Ball Super trying to be a radish farmer at his wife's behest before receiving a sizable cash gift from his friends in order to continue his training. Gohan had the good fortune of marrying into a wealthy family, allowing him to balance his family life, academic career and martial arts pursuits all at once. Throughout DBZ, Gohan struggled to juggle his life responsibilities as his mother kept at him for his studies. By Super, he has proved that, with some lucrative marital connections, he can balance both brawn and brains without worrying about the bills.
