Dragon Ball Super Previews Granolah’s Showdown with Gas

Granolah has eaten a bean and is ready to handle his Gas problem in the latest preview for Dragon Ball Super Chapter #79.

SPOILERS FOR DRAGON BALL SUPER FOLLOW:

The official Dragon Ball website has released a few images of manga artist's Toyotarou's rough sketches and layouts for the upcoming chapter. The preview shows a Granolah reacting the restorative powers of the senzu bean, which Vegeta, in a surprising act of kindness, gave to the Cerealian at the end of the manga's previous chapter. The newly refreshed warrior is then shown easily dispatching two of the Heeters as he puts his iconic eye piece back on. The final panel from the preview apparently shows Granolah preparing to free a weakened Goku from the clutches of Gas, the Heeter enforcer who is now the strongest fighter in the universe thanks to a wish granted by the planet's Dragon Balls.

While there are undoubtedly plenty of twists and turns left in the battle, the preview offers a glimpse into what appears to be the climax of the Granolah the Survivor arc. Following a long battle, the vengeful Cerealian has finally learned that it was Goku's father, Bardock, who saved his life, and that the true targets of his revenge should be the Heeters, who were ones who actually murdered his mother and manipulated him into working for them.

In addition to Granolah and the Heeters, this arc also saw the debut of Vegeta's latest and currently most powerful form, Ultra Ego. According to artist Toyotarou, Vegeta's new form was intended to be the dark mirror of Goku's Ultra Instinct transformation. While Goku's Ultra Instinct is influenced by the design of the silver-haired Guide Angel Whis, Vegeta's latest transformation is likewise informed by the appearance of Beerus, the purple cat-like God of Destruction. Toyotarou unveiled a new piece of art at this year's Jump Festa, which shows off the first officially colored image of Ultra Ego Vegeta.

Dragon Ball Super began its serialization in 2017. The manga is supervised by Akira Toriyama, the original creator of the Dragon Ball series, and features art by Toyotarou, an artist whom Toriyama has named as his official successor. Dragon Ball Super was adapted into an anime series by Toei Animation, who also produced the original Dragon Ball anime, as well as its highly influential and still popular follow-up, Dragon Ball Z. The anime ran from 2015 - 2018, and has continued through the release of animated movies. The latest movie in the franchise, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, is scheduled to be released sometime in 2022.
