WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Super Chapter 73, by Akira Toriyama, Toyotarou, Caleb Cook and Brandon Bovia, available now in English through Viz Media.
Since using Planet Cereal's Dragon Balls to become the strongest fighter in the universe, Granolah has certainly lived up to the hype. During his initial confrontation with Goku and Vegeta, the last Cerealian proved too fast for even the mighty Saiyans, and his ability to target a fighter's vitals meant a single mistake against him could prove deadly. However, Dragon Ball Super Chapter 73 reveals Granolah has a tricky ability that definitely makes him one of the most formidable warriors against whom the Z-Fighters have ever fought.
Having opted to fight Granolah first, Goku uses Super Saiyan Blue combined with Ultra Instinct against his opponent. This power level proves an even match for Granolah, but the Cerealian gets in a sneaky blow and nearly blows Goku up. This causes the Saiyan -- who learns from Vegeta that Granolah is seeking revenge for the extermination of the Cerealians -- to power up to Perfected Ultra Instinct. In this divine form, Goku proves dominant and all looks lost for Granolah.
However, Vegeta soon realizes that something is terribly wrong: Granolah's power isn't decreasing as he fights with Goku. The Saiyan Prince soon detects another power level and goes to investigate, finding Granolah's real body inside his ship. "I shouldn't have split my power at the start," Granolah tells Goku after admitting he underestimated the two Saiyans. "I took some power from my true body and made a clone. An illusion." The Granolah against whom Goku has been fighting then disappears. The real version then teleports in and lands a sneaky blow that knocks out Goku.
"I decided to have you fight that clone in order to save my strength for Freeza," Granolah explains as he walks towards Goku with the intent of finishing him off. However, before he can get to the Saiyan, Vegeta intervenes, promising to wipe the Cerealians from the universe once and for all.
While Granolah doesn't have the training in divine abilities that Goku and Vegeta do, he has a bag filled with some pretty incredible tricks. His clone proved a match for Goku in one of his most powerful forms, and it's pretty clear that the real Granolah is significantly stronger than he first appeared. As such, Granolah doesn't even need to physically show up for his own fights. He can literally send a projection of his power that's capable of standing up against one of the strongest fighters in the universe. That means, at this point, Granolah is one of the strongest villains against whom the Z-Fighters have ever fought, and Vegeta is going to have a hard battle ahead of him.
Dragon Ball Super Chapter 74 will release on July 20 through Viz Media.
