Thanks to his Ultra Instinct training, Goku has reached new heights of power never before seen in the Dragon Ball franchise. However, as the Saiyan's battle against Moro proved, Goku's grasp on Ultra Instinct is far from perfect. And in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 73, Goku's problems with Perfected Ultra Instinct prove that his grasp on the move is far from perfect.
At the start of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 73, Goku and Granolah face off, with the former using a combination of Super Saiyan Blue and Ultra Instinct. During a pause in their fight, Granolah notes that his eye -- which allows him to figure out the weaknesses of others -- isn't picking up anything that he can exploit. However, Granolah is able to stand against Goku and eventually gets the better of a ki blast exchange.
After Granolah notes that no form is without issues, Goku replies, "No, Ultra Instinct should have no weaknesses. If anything's lacking, it's gotta be my training [...] I'm not totally used to using Ultra Instinct as a Super Saiyan. So I'm still vulnerable." Then, the Saiyan is forced to retreat after a sneaky blast from Granolah.
When the two next fight, Goku uses his Perfected Ultra Instinct form -- and he proves absolutely dominant. But just when it looks like Goku is going to finally beat Granolah, Vegeta discovers that the last Cerealian is actually fighting his compatriot with a clone. Before Vegeta can warn Goku about what's going on, Granolah teleports to Goku and hits him in a vital point, taking him out of the fight for the time being. "Your accuracy drops over time in that silver-haired form," Granolah brags. "I knew I could find an opening eventually."
While Perfected Ultra Instinct is a powerful form, Goku's fight with Granolah proves the ability has its limits. By using some tricks, Granolah is able to get the advantage and defeat the Saiyan while in a form normally reserved for divine beings. This problem, though, isn't with Ultra Instinct itself. Instead, the issue is that Goku still hasn't quite mastered the form. So while Ultra Instinct makes Goku incredibly powerful, his own inexperience with the form proves a liability in combat.
Dragon Ball Super Chapter 74 will release on July 20 through Viz Media.
