Dragon Ball Super: Goku Makes a Classic Cell Games Mistake Against Moro

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Super Chapter #65, by Akira Toriyama, Toyotarou, Caleb Cook and Brandon Bovia, available now in English from Viz Media.

One of Goku's worst mistakes in all of Dragon Ball Z was giving the titular villain of the "Cell Saga" a Senzu Bean following their fight. While the Saiyan hero nominally did this so as to give his powerful son, Gohan, the chance to really test his abilities, the unintended consequences of the act saw Goku having to sacrifice himself so as to keep a self-destructing Cell from destroying Earth. Now, in the latest chapter of Dragon Ball Super, Goku has made that same mistake again -- this time with Moro.

After Merus' death, Goku gained access to Ultra Instinct Perfected, which is his most powerful form yet. Thanks to this power boost, Goku absolutely dominated Moro, despite the villain's incredible abilities, and effectively defeated him. In Dragon Ball Super Chapter #65, however, Goku goes and retrieves a Senzu Bean from Kuririn, giving it to Moro in exchange for the villain promising to surrender to the Galactic Patrol. Before and after the exchange, pretty much every onlooker expresses their disbelief Goku would do something so abjectly foolish.

Goku gives Moro a Senzu Bean in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 65.

After the Senzu Bean restores Moro, the villain -- who at no point has shown any remorse for his actions -- tries to attack Goku. However, the attack proves ineffective, and Goku once again gives Moro the option to surrender or die. Moro, though, realizes he made a copy of Merus' powers when he fought against the Angel. Retrieving the arm, Moro finds himself able to access Merus' version of Ultra Instinct Perfect. This allows him to temporarily stand toe-to-toe with Goku, but soon the transformation proves too much for Moro's body, and just as Goku looks poised to finish him off for good, the villain merges with Earth. As Dragon Ball Super Chapter #65 concludes, Whis tells Goku that, if Moro isn't defeated soon, he'll explode and potentially obliterate both the galaxy and Earth.

Goku has screwed things up again. By refusing to kill Moro and instead, ofgiving him a Senzu Bean to recover, Goku presented the energy-absorbing villain with the opportunity to grow even more powerful and thus put the Earth and all of its inhabitants in danger. However, this time around, Goku's mistake might end up costing untold lives. Luckily, the franchise's titular Dragon Balls have generally proved pretty helpful in situations like this.

Dragon Ball Super Chapter 66 releases Nov. 20.
