Dragon Ball Fan Art Shows Vegeta’s Evolution from Prince to God of Destruction

A new set of Dragon Ball portraits gorgeously capture how Vegeta has evolved since the end of Dragon Ball Z.

The fan art was created by a UK-based artist known as Smartimus_Prime online. Each portrait features Majin Vegeta, the powerful form that Vegeta used exclusively during the Majin Buu saga from the end of Dragon Ball Z. This version of the saiyan is then overlapped by one of Vegeta's new forms from Dragon Ball Super: first, his standard Super Saiyan Blue (a.k.a. Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan) transformation, and his latest and most powerful form, the eyebrow-less and purple-tinted Ultra Ego. The artist posted the images with the caption "From Prince of Destruction to God of Destruction."

The artist's comment is referencing Vegeta's unique appearance during his Ultra Ego transformation. Dragon Ball Super artist Toyotarou recently explained that while Goku's silver-colored Ultra Instinct form is based on the angelic guardian Whis, Vegeta's purple Ultra Ego is instead influenced by the design of Universe 7's cat-like God of Destruction, Beerus.

The artist has also created fan art for numerous other anime and video game series, including Pokemon and Sonic the Hedgehog. They can also be found on YouTube, where they post speed-drawing videos and gameplay streams from Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle, a popular free-to-play mobile game.

Fans looking for a different take on the Saiyan prince can also check out the latest entry in the Dragon Ball Super Gallery Project, which features a new famous manga creator every month and tasks them with redrawing one of creator Akira Toriyama's classic Dragon Ball manga covers. The latest entry in the project came from Demon Slayer creator Koyoharu Gotouge, and saw the reclusive artist create a unique family portrait featuring Vegeta, Bulma and two different versions of Trunks.

Vegeta has also been confirmed to appear in the series' next animated movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, which is scheduled to premiere in Japan on April 22. The new film features a CG-based animation style that attempts to blend 3D models with Toriyama's distinctive drawing style. While details about its international release have yet to be announced, the movie's producers previously promised to make the gap between its Japanese premiere and its Western release as short as possible.
