Dragon Ball collectors take note, as two new prize figures featuring two of Goku's most memorable transformations have been revealed.
The new figures were revealed on the official Dragon Ball website. The first of the figures represents Goku's Super Saiyan 4 form, which was first seen in Dragon Ball GT. The second figure is of Gogeta, the powerful warrior that is born from the fusion of Goku and Vegeta. The two figures were shown alongside a statement from Dragon Ball figure creator Hiroyuki Nakazawa that reads, "No Goku fan can afford to miss the brutal facial expressions and stunning variety this Goku figure series brings to the table! Blast on down to your local game center and add these two terrific Goku figures to your collection!"
The new collectibles are "prize figures," which is the term collectors use to refer to mass-produced character statues that are usually given out as crane game prizes in Japanese arcades. While prize figures usually feature lower detail sculpts and paint jobs than more expensive scale figures, their affordable prices and easy availability have made them popular with fans and collectors on a budget. Though the figures are meant to be won through arcade kiosks, they are also frequently available to buy directly through various retailers and the secondary market.
Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball is third best-selling manga series of all time, ranked only behind Golgo 13 and Eiichiro Oda's equally respected shonen epic One Piece. While the series always maintained a cult following outside of Japan thanks to imports and syndicated broadcasts, Dragon Ball Z found a mainstream audience when it was shown on Cartoon Network's Toonami block during the late '90s and early '00s. The highly influential series has now generated over $27.9 billion USD in revenue worldwide, and is widely credited with helping anime and manga achieve mainstream popularity internationally.
The series is currently continuing with the on-going Dragon Ball Super manga, and the next movie in the series, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, will feature a new art style that blends 2D and 3D animation. The new movie will be set several years after Dragon Ball Super: Broly and will feature a slightly older Pan, as well as the first look inside Piccolo's house. Super Hero is currently scheduled to debut sometime in 2022.
