Doctor Strange 2 Concept Art Offers a Stunning Look at Charlize Theron’s Clea

The following contains spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, in theaters now.

Marvel Studios Senior Visual Development Illustrator John Staub released his final approved design for Charlize Theron's Clea in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Theron appears as the Dark Dimension's Sorcerer Supreme in a mid-credits scene for the Marvel Cinematic Universe film directed by Sam Raimi. Staub posted photos of Clea's final design on Instagram, giving Marvel fans a detailed look at what her full costume looks like. Staub writes, "I had an absolute blast working on this film led by the awesome [Marvel Studios Visual Development Supervisor Ian Joyner] and was thrilled to be able to work on this character."

Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Clea debuts in Strange Tales #126. In Marvel Comics, she is the eventual wife of Stephen Strange and the niece of Dormammu, a villain who appeared in the first Doctor Strange film back in 2016. She confronts Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in the sequel to inform him that his actions caused an incursion -- two Earths colliding into one another -- before opening a portal to the Dark Dimension and telling him that the two need to fix it.

In the current Strange series by writer Jed MacKay and Marcelo Ferreira, Clea is the Sorcerer Supreme of both Earth-616 and the Dark Dimension. The reason why she holds this role for two domains is because Doctor Strange died in the appropriately titled The Death of Doctor Strange series by MacKay and artist Lee Garbett. Clea's mission in Strange is to resurrect her love so that the two can be reunited once again.

As for Multiverse of Madness, the film includes more newcomers than just Clea, like America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez). The movie has been out for weeks as of writing, and Marvel has finally released official images and promos featuring Earth-838's Illuminati and members like Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell). The group is the first to bring up the term "incursion" to Doctor Strange, hinting that the MCU could be heading towards the fan-favorite Secret Wars storyline from 2015.

As for a possible future with Secret Wars and/or Theron's Clea, no official announcements have been made for a Secret Wars project or a third Doctor Strange film as of writing. Other projects slated to follow Multiverse of Madness include Ms. Marvel, Thor: Love and Thunder, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and more. Thor: Love and Thunder is the next film to release as of writing, which will reintroduce Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as the Mighty Thor.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in theaters.
