Digimon Adventure Trailer Teases Omnimon vs Negamon Final Battle

Digimon Adventure has released a teaser for the reboot's penultimate episode and it looks the series will go out on a high note.

SPOILERS FOR DIGIMON ADVENTURE FOLLOW:

The new teaser was released to the official Toei Animation YouTube channel. The video features the Digi-destined and the Ultimate forms of their partner Digimon beginning their final battle with Negamon, who seeks to erase both the digital and real worlds. It appears the power of their new Ultimate evolutions isn't enough, as Negamon also evolves into an even more destructive new form, Kuzurumon. The trailer also teases the return of Omnimon, the combined form of Tacihi's WarGreymon and Yamato's MetalGarurumon.

The clips come from episode 66 of the rebooted anime series, which is entitled "The Last Miracle, The Last Power." This episode will be followed by one final episode, which is scheduled to air in Japan on Sept. 26.

The end of Digimon Adventure will be quickly followed up with the premiere of the next Digimon anime series, Ghost Game. Ghost Game will debut in October and will feature a new cast of kids and Digimon. The first trailer for the series was recently revealed, which introduces the series' new protagonist, middle school student Hiro, and his partner monster, Gammamon. Hiro will be played by series veteran Mutsumi Tamura, who previously portrayed Koizumi "Izzy" Izumi in Digimon Adventure. Gammamon will be voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro, a legendary voice actor who has previously appeared in anime such as Lupin the Third,  Sword Art Online and Durarara!!.

The current Digimon Adventure anime is a reboot of the 1999 Digimon series, which was a loosely based on the Digimon virtual pet toy that was released by Bandai in 1997. While the original anime was initially dismissed as a Pokemon clone, it quickly found an audience thanks to its greater focus on serialized storytelling and slightly more serious tone. The original anime series and its follow-up movies were some of the first directorial works from Mamoru Hosoda, an animator who would later go on to direct the Academy Award-nominated Mirai, as well as the upcoming Belle. Following the release of several Digimon series set in different continuities, Bandai and Toei Animation returned to Adventure's timeline with the Digimon Adventure Tri series, which featured older versions of the original series' characters. This series was itself followed up with the tear-jerking Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, a 2020 theatrical release that tells the story of Taichi and Yamato's final adventure with their Digimon partners.
